how interesting.

here's a little insight into how house of cards is shot.
Almost every single frame of this show is composed to place a pale blue object in the foreground with a pale yellow light in the background. Now, sometimes the foreground object is more black than blue, sometimes the background veers toward a sickly green, sometimes they're outside and the background is necessarily blue or black sky, but once you begin noticing this particular habit of the House of Cards color pallete, it is hard to unsee. here's a podcast interview with the show's cinematographer.

on a related note, here's a list of ten films matthew weiner made required viewing for the cast & crew of mad men. jicydak, there's a big mad men exhibition opening march 14 at the museum of the moving image (shoutout flim).

i knew i was justified in not liking that stupid game.

i've always been put off by cards against humanity. the somewhat disturbing themes that inevitably emerge are one thing, but mostly i find that it tends to reward a pretty low-hanging-fruit brand of humor. and now i've learned that the creator is some kinda rapist or something! so....BOYCOTT!

kevin spacey is on your side.

Leave it to Kevin Spacey, the first actor in the Edinburgh International Television Festival's 37 year history to deliver the keynote James MacTaggart Memorial Lecture, to outline everything that's wrong with the mindset of today's TV execs.
The House of Cards star had plenty of ammunition to demonstrate definitively that the anti-tech approach will eventually result in the old guard's demise, unless viewers are allowed to determine the means of consumption. (via)
