Weekend at Bernies?!?

Some people tried to sneak a dead woman onto a plane!

I'm the specialist person ever.

Yes, I mean short bus special.

2pz contributor and bangin' Brooklyn blogger G.Animalz has another little blog called Space Shuttle. It took me a bit (by a bit, I mean months - up until 5 minutes ago) to realize why her blog was named such a thing. And I only realized this because I noticed the address of her blog is spacevshuttle.blogspot.com. I thought, "space versus shuttle?" and then it hit me.

I just want to commend you for intriguing me for so long with something so intelligently simple. And I would say exactly what it is, but I'm curious as to how many followers picked up on it. So let me know in the comments. And be honest about how long it was before you realized the connection.

Prada : Marfa

Have you ever noticed the large pop art "PRADA, MARFA, 1837 mi ->" print in the Van der Woodsen penthouse on gossip girl? I just noticed and googled and was directed to this blog that had previously googled what I just googled.

Apparently the print recognizes a permanent art installation located in an empty landscape in west Texas (nytimes), 26 miles away from the small town of Marfa, TX. I will leave the art history critique to you.

Don't you love it when tv teaches you something?

chinese hairless bear (beast)

This sad looking creature which resembles a hairless bear with a kangaroo-like tail was trapped by hunters in Sichuan province in China and now everybody's running around saying it's an 'Oriental Yeti'.

Said hunter Lu Chin: "'It also does not sound like a bear - it has a voice more like a cat and it is calling all the time - perhaps it is looking for the rest of its kind or maybe it's the last one?"

My favorite street

Just a quick stroll over the Pulaski Bridge from my apartment, Manhattan Avenue in Greenpoint is one of my favorite places to go explore on a warm afternoon, buy a halloween costume, or buy candy. It seems that I am not the only one to have discovered some of it's many delights. However, Tina Fey expresses her love for Manhattan Ave.'s delights more eloquently than I could ever hope. She tells
Esquire:

"The best doughnut? That's Peter Pan doughnuts in Brooklyn. It's a Polish bakery. We shot nearby once for 30 Rock. It's a white-cream-filled powdered doughnut. And I really believe, when I first tried it, if I had a penis, I would put it in this doughnut. I finally understand what you guys are thinking about and what motivates you guys."

I am locked up in Manhattan, which is not the same as Manhattan Avenue, so I unfortunately cannot go try these donut whores for myself. They're just asking for it. I will add them to my list.

Keep an eye out for future Manhattan Ave. posts.

what is Jake Gyllenhaal talking about?

"And I’d say, ‘OK, I’ll try it,’ and then I’d say, ‘OH GOD. OH, please.’ But then I’d get it, and we’d go a little further and a little longer and a little higher and just kept it up...It got a little bit dicey there near the end, when they saw that I liked doing things that were dangerous. I tried my hand at things that were pushing it a little bit." via

sounds fun jake. wwwwink ;)

Here is a nymag article written by Roger Lathbury, operator of a small publishing house that in the 90s was tantalizingly close to publishing a novella by J.D. Salinger. It's a quick read and an interesting insight into the eccentricity and paranoia surrounding the last years of Salinger's life.

from-a-to-p-park.

In the 1970s, Prospect Park in Brooklyn looked more like a crime scene than the pastoral refuge imagined a century earlier by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux.

As if to advertise the woeful state of the park, in 1976 Columbia, the figure driving atop the arch at Grand Army Plaza, fell over in her chariot, a victim of disrepair.
...
Three decades later, Ms. Thomas, who plans to announce her retirement on Tuesday, has become a Brooklyn institution and is widely seen as the park’s indefatigable savior.

Her fans credit her with turning Prospect Park into a worthy rival to Central Park, and for handing a lost treasure of wilderness and recreation back to the people of Brooklyn. (via)

nErD aLeRt!

Friends of 2pz and UT Architecture graduates Erik Herrmann and Ashley Bigham are set to tie the knot. From Erik:

All,

This weekend [now last month] I took Ashley to Dallas for her birthday, and proposed in the Noguchi sculpture garden at the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas. Ashley claims to have been on to me the whole time, but I'm relatively certain that I caught her by surprise...

I just wanted to send out a note sharing our good news with you all.

More details to follow... [we're still waiting]

All the best,
Erik

Congratulations on being our nerdiest of friends. Here's more proof that they're huge nerds:

You "Kahn't" be serious you two. [See what I did there?]

Congratulations to Butler for winning...

...our hearts. In the whitest of NCAA Championships since Kentucky let beeple play, Butler fell to Duke by 2 points last night. Butler is a 2pz favorite for being ceeyute bull-underdogs like Georgia, but not as douchey. Butler coach Brad Stevens is a 2pz favorite for being young like Lane Kiffin, but not as douchey. Also, he graduated from DePauw University.

The loss ended a nation's best 25-game win streak. Luckily, Butler did not go down like West Virginia, nor did they get mounted by Bob Huggins. Their goofy tennis champ star missed a last second shot that was really close, unlike another last second shot earlier in the tourney that we Vol fans would like to forget. It is likely that Butler will be remembered as a great team and get to keep it in their record books, because they are not coached by John Calipari. Even though they fell short, they were impressive in front of a hometown crowd of 70,000 people (great sight lines, I'm sure). What we can be sure of is that Peyton's orange awesomeness rubbed off on Butler up there in Indianapolis.

And that Bruce Pearl will be sticking around Tennessee for a while. [relevant]

When the game ended and Duke was celebrating on the court, a nurse's assistant walked into to my room to take my vitals, and said "football?" To which I replied "No." and thought Five months, sweetie, only five months.

oof.

Chilling classified video of a 2007 collateral damage incident in which U.S. Army Apache helicopter crews apparently mistook Iraqi civilians and Reuters journalists for insurgents was made public by a watchdog group.

According to WikiLeaks, which made the video public on its WikiLeaks.org website, the video shows the mistaken killing of two Reuters journalists, photographer Namir Noor-Eldeen, 22, and his assistant and driver Saeed Chmagh, 40. The site has posted the video on YouTube with the title "Collateral Murder." (via)

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – It's a good spring for strawberry lovers: Prices are unusually low in many places because cold weather delayed Florida's harvest to coincide with California's, and the two states are flooding the market with cheap berries. (via)
