westminster dog show is happening

the first half of the groups showed last night, here are the results:

in the hound group, 15-inch beagle miss p upset the crowd favorite and last year's best in show runner-up, nathan the bloodhound, who is famous for licking judges. #nathannation that being said, miss p is an adorable and hungry champion and if anyone has a problem with her they can take it up with ME.

meanwhile, a very privileged shih tzu won the toy group. her name is rocket, and she belongs to patty hearst, of the newspaper hearsts.

in the non-sporting group (shade), they gave the award to a thirsty standard poodle named FLAME!

and finally, the herding group, which includes not one, but two different kinds a corgis to pick from, was won by a dang sheepdog. his name is swagger and i think he must be cheating.

tonight, we get the remaining groups: sporting, working, and (god loves a) terrier, followed by BEST IN SHOW!!!!

our new queen Miss Rhode Island gave a really thoughtful answer to her final question about a trangsgendered contestant winning the pageant, but first runner up Miss Maryland stole my heart with the shade she couldn't help but throw when she found out she lost. via.

who's the prettiest chow chow at the westminster dog show?

genghis khan, that's whom!!!

Martha Stewart has suffered some professional setbacks of late. But today was a moment of unvarnished triumph: Stewart's chow-chow, Ghenghis Khan, took the Best in Breed ribbon at the Westminster Dog Show this morning. What makes the victory all the more sweet for Martha is that this isn't the first fluffy puppy she's named after a legendarily fearsome Mongolian warlord. Today's victorious chow-chow replaced Ghengis Khan the First, who died in a 2009 explosion at a kennel club and training center for show dogs in the Poconos.

Ghengis II, though, is no pale imitation, and more than meets up to the famously exacting Stewart standards. We never knew until today that Martha was into show dogs, but we're not surprised she's doing it better than you are. (via)
