CHERRY PICKIN' POLL

i'm going to try to frame this as objectively as possible:

a person enters a grocery store, heads to the produce section, and decides (s)he would like some cherries and/or grapes. the cherries/grapes are set out on a table, grouped into unsealed plastic bags (you know the kind, open w/ top handles and drainage holes all over). so (s)he takes a produce bag off the roll nearby, and takes the preferred amount grapes/cherries from several batches, based on his/her preferred quality, and proceeds to the register to pay by weight.

in your opinion....IZ THAT OKAY?!

tell us in the comments.

poor, poor red hook fairway

Like much of Red Hook, Fairway was destroyed by the flood waters. Every single component of the store—from the food products to the cash registers to the shelves—was irreparably damaged. When I visited last week it was startling to see how completely the space had been stripped. What was once a bustling grocery store is now a brick-walled shell. However, Fairway will be able to come back. Unlike many of the other small businesses that were damaged, Fairway has the reserves to rebuild. It's taking a particularly long time because of the massive amounts of equipment that needed to be re-ordered. It's not the kind of stuff you can get from IKEA. In the meantime, though, every single worker who had been employed at the Red Hook branch has been reassigned to other Fairway locations and provided with free transportation to those satellite stores. that place is gonna be crooooowwwddddeeeeeeddddddd....

Williamsburg will be the next nabe to welcome Whole Foods. Sleuths have ferreted out that a stalled site at 242 Bedford Ave. by North Fourth Street will be rejuvenated with the organic grocer and a New York Sports Club in the base with luxe apartments above, rather than the middling mix of Marshall’s and CVS reported elsewhere a year ago. More Awesomeness from Tennessee

I found this video posted on my friends' blog. It is one of my favorite stores in Knoxville, and last year they came up to NYC for a show and sale at Chelsea Market right near my office. They make some pretty cool posters like the one above. You can buy stuff here.
