the BQE trees will be in queens this year

Suspended Forest has been shown twice previously shown in an unauthorized, unused space under the BQE along Metropolitan Avenue in Williamsburg. Those installations were removed by the city within days. The exhibition at Knockdown Center, on view for a month and configured in a grid, allows for a much different experience, most importantly time for the trees to shed their needles into halos on the smooth concrete floor below. Paired with the subtle pine fragrance of the trees and the opportunity for quiet contemplation, the exhibition encourages repeated viewing.

jerry saltz did NOT care for the bjork show at MoMA and seems to be kind of mad in general:

That sadness has mushroomed into dejection of late. Since 2004, when it reopened in its bland new Taniguchi building, many art-world conversations about New York museums circle back to and then plunge into people's pain, anger, sadness, and frustration about the Museum of Modern Art. On the one hand, the museum has the greatest collection of modern art on Earth. It always will. Yet not only is most of this collection permanently held captive in storage, what little of it is on view is seen in perhaps the most unpleasant viewing conditions in any major museum in the world — in far too few galleries that are far too small and poorly designed. Then there's the museum's twisted bid to transform itself into something like a multiplex mall, specializing in whiz-bang pop-cultural events. Now comes a Diller Scofidio + Renfro expansion plan meant to fix the problems it created in 2004, which looks much more likely to exacerbate them. (via)

A few years ago we shared photographer Richard Mosse‘s unique infrared imagery that he had shot in The Democratic Republic of Congo for his series Infra. Taking advantage of an old type of Kodak film called Aerochrome, he infused new color into this war-torn and often forgotten part of the Earth.

Now he’s taken that project a step further by creating a documentary film called The Enclave. Shot entirely on 16mm Aerochrome film, the footage reveals both the unseen infrared bouncing off of the vegetation, and this too-often unseen “ongoing humanitarian disaster.” (via)

get acquainted because DUMBO is about to get a goat farm art installation:

Artist Andrea Reynosa, who lives across the street from the “rat-infested, neglected lot” at 1 John Street that will be turned into a 42-condo development this summer, built a 6,000-sq-ft field full of green clovers on the site that will “blush crimson” (i.e. turn red) when the weather warms up.

Reynosa plans to bring in goats to “eat the clover in order to make way for condos,” reports DNAinfo, which is actually pretty neat. The installation, called John Street Pasture “was a great marriage of all of our views, including the developer, of what we wanted to do with the lot. The result is very simple and sparks a conversation about land use and sustainable agriculture in a transitioning city,” said Reynosa. The goat-free version is currently on view. (via)
