nytimes trend alert

hey, owls are a thing. NEW TREND ALERT, owls.

In the Western imagination, the owl surely vies with the penguin for the position of My Favorite Bird. “Everyone loves owls,” said David J. Bohaska, a paleobiologist at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History, who discovered one of the earliest owl fossils. “Even mammalogists love owls.”
Owls are a staple of children’s books and cultural kitsch — here wooing pussycats in pea-green boats and delivering mail to the Harry Potter crew, there raising a dubiously Wise eyebrow in the service of snack food. Yet for all this apparent familiarity, only lately have scientists begun to understand the birds in any detail, and to puzzle out the subtleties of behavior, biology and sensory prowess that set them apart from all other avian tribes.

everyone's favorite red headed royal was staying at the wynn in las vegas and got rowdy in the pool with everyone's favorite douchebag swimmer, ryan lochte. then he got rowdy (and naked) in his suite with some trashbags he picked up in the hotel lobby. TMZ has pics. Michael K has a field day.

lololololol!

the actress who plays the harry potter girl in those harry potter movies was attending brown university. and omg, listen to what those kids did to her!
The Brit beauty might not have magic powers, but a source close to Brown University (where Watson was enrolled from fall 2009 until this past winter) tells us the star's brainy ways may have led to her classmates' heckling – and perhaps a reason why she left the Providence, R.I., institution.

The insider says Watson didn't shy away from class participation and often would "answer something in class and get it right," calling the 21-year-old actress "really smart." Unfortunately, this brought out the sophisticated wit and cinematic expertise of her Ivy League peers.

According to the source, her classmates "would respond [to her answer] with a quote from 'Harry Potter.'" The most popular choice was "Three points for Gryffindor!" – a reference to the movie's dormitory system, and a congratulatory phrase in the films when a student got a correct answer.
