jicyww: what's a yankee smell like?

we previously reported on the new stink emanating from the bronx. here's what it smells like according to the manufacturer:
The New York Yankees™ fragrance epitomizes the winning style of the greatest team in baseball, capturing a sporty and confident attitude.
This fresh, woody scent introduces an invigorating blend of sparkling Bergamot, Coriander and cool Blue Sage. As it evolves, the fragrance reveals a fusion of crisp Ivy Leaves, Orange Flower and Geranium enhanced with rich earthy Patchouli, smooth Sandalwood and Suede to create a timeless, masculine scent.

It was reviewed by the people over at deadspin and the best comment was this:
Chandler Burr, former perfume critic for T: The New York Times Style Magazine and the current curator of olfactory art at the Museum of Art and Design: "This is absolutely the pitch perfect Justin Bieber hit. You get a perfectly constructed pop hit that stays resolutely within the boundaries of comfort and familiarity but has a great hook. The boundaries of comfort and familiarities are the 1980s late 20th century masculine and the hook is a very sweet fun fruit—like a raspberry. It's the Justin Bieber of scents—if you could bottle Justin Bieber this would be it."

way to go yankees. you nailed it.

way to go, yankees fans.

NEW YORK -- Tim Tebow has work to do if he's going to win over New York sports fans.
The new backup quarterback for the Jets was booed at Yankee Stadium on Sunday night when he was shown on the giant video board -- even though he was wearing a Yankees cap.
Sitting in the third row next to the Los Angeles Angels dugout, Tebow cracked a smile and acknowledged the camera. There was a smattering of cheers, but most of the initial reactions were boos. (via)
UNwelcome.

always trust alec baldwin

the yankees are playing the red sox in boston right now. the red sox haven't won a single game all season long! (they're 0-6). the game is tied at 6-6 at the moment, but i'm confident those beanbags will still be 0-9 after this weekend. GO YANKEES!!

what are you doing tonight?

according to the new york times, criminals wear yankees hats more frequently than other teams' hats:

A curious phenomenon has emerged at the intersection of fashion, sports and crime: dozens of men and women who have robbed, beaten, stabbed and shot at their fellow New Yorkers have done so while wearing Yankees caps or clothing.
Criminologists, sports marketing analysts, consumer psychologists and Yankees fans have developed their own theories, with some attributing the trend to the popularity of the caps among gangsta rappers and others wondering whether criminals are identifying with the team’s aura of money, power and success. (via)
go yankees!!

on a related note, melissa is in new york, and she's taking me to a mets game tonight! i'm going to root against them most likely, as i am a devoted yankees fan. it's because of their aura of money, power, and success. though, i'm excited to visit the new citifield. i've heard its real nice, it even has a shake shack! we're planning on having 3 or 4 dinners, so if anyone has any recommendations, let 'em fly.

after the game, we will buy some yankees gear and rob a chase bank or two.

this treasure pictured to the left is Dandy. he was the yankees mascot from 1979-81, before they made the huge mistake of banishing him.

i also picked a pony

my pony is named homeboykris. i picked him because i liked his name the best. i also found out that former New York Yankees manager Joe Torre is a part owner of my new favorite pony. his granddaddy, and his great granddaddy are both derby winners, so that is something.

the oddsmakers have homeboykris as a longshot, but i think by throwing the full weight of my support behind him that magic can happen. look for him to win.

UPDATE:
Jay-Z and fellow New Yorker Alicia Keys were due to perform "Empire" before Game 1 between the Yankees and the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday at Yankee Stadium. But because of rainy weather, their performance will now be on Thursday. It's not clear if Game 1 will be postponed. (via)

sorry bun-bun.

NEW YORK - The New York Yankees have been blasting Jay-Z’s “Empire State of Mind” during their playoff run. Now, the team is having the rap king perform the song live to kick off Game 1 of the World Series.

Jay-Z and fellow New Yorker Alicia Keys are set to perform the hit on Wednesday, as the Yankees take on defending World Series champs, the Philadelphia Phillies.

“Thank the good Lord for making me a Yankee,” the Brooklyn native said in an interview Monday. (via)

nErD aLeRt!

both the yankees' and the mets' new stadiums open today. nytimes architecture critic, nicolai ouroussoff reviews them:

What’s more, each stadium subtly reflects the character of the franchises that built them. Yankee Stadium is the kind of stoic, self-conscious monument to history that befits the most successful franchise in American sports. The new home of the Mets, meanwhile, is scrappier and more lighthearted. It plays with history fast and loose, as if it were just another form of entertainment. (nytimes)
