we're getting a space shuttle!!
NASA’s space shuttles, which have been carrying astronauts aloft for 30 years, were assigned to their final destinations on Tuesday: one will head to the nation’s capital, another to Los Angeles, and the third from its current home at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida to the center’s visitor complex next door.
Conspicuous among the unsuccessful hopefuls were the Museum of Flight in Seattle, which had already begun construction of a wing that it hoped would house an orbiter; the National Museum of the United States Air Force in Ohio; and NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Texas, the site of mission control for the 135 shuttle missions.suck it, seattle.
The disappointment in Houston was pronounced. Representative Pete Olson, a Republican whose district includes the space center, said in a statement, “This oversight smacks of a political gesture in an agency that has always served above politics.”suck it, houston.
With the Discovery headed to the Smithsonian, the museum will no longer have need for the Enterprise, the shuttle that has been on display there since 2003. The Enterprise, which was used for early glide tests but was never sent into orbit, will now go the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum in Manhattan. Almost 400 volunteers are searching the dense West Tennessee woodlands looking for a 20-year-old nursing student last seen being dragged by a man dressed in camouflage into the woods near her home, investigators said.
Holly Bobo was dragged "across the carport of her home… toward a wooded area" in the town of Parsons on Wednesday, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. Both Bobo's mother and 25-year-old brother watched the woman being abducted and called 911.
John Mayer, spokesman for the TBI, would not say if family members tried to intervene or if they were suspected in the abduction.

Investigators initially believe the young woman may have been abducted from her house in a home invasion, but Mayer told ABCNews.com that "the suspect was never inside."
Police won't comment on what else family members told them or what evidence may have been left behind.

Scientists at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Vents Program at Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory and Oregon State University didn't feel the massive earthquake that struck off Japan on March 11. But they did hear it.
An underwater microphone located near the Aleutian Islands of Alaska, 900 miles from the quake epicenter, captured the sound of the disaster on tape, and a portion of the recording has now been put up on YouTube. (via)
