The rumors surrounding American Horror Story's next season were nearly correct, as writer Douglas Petrie confirms on the Nerdist Writers Panel podcast: "Yes. It doesn't have a title, but that's the idea. Very roughly, that's the idea." Yes, next season of American Horror Story will be set in a (spooky!) carnival. But not a spooky carnivale, because that was already a show. Those of you already afraid of deranged carnies? Choose a different show. (via)

American Horror Story: Coven is beginning to wrap up its phenomenal season (tonight’s episode is a doozy) but co-creator Ryan Murphy has already begun plotting and planning his fourth installment of the FX franchise…as well as peppering the final episodes with tiny hints as to next year’s plot. “It’s set in 1950,” Murphy reveals exclusively to EW. “If you look historically what happened in the year 1950, there’s some more clues in that year. It’s a period piece. We try and do the opposite of what we’ve done before. Jessica Lange has already started practicing her German accent so I’m very excited!” (via)

When entomologist and bee removal expert Jonathan Simkins was alerted to the presence of a larger-than-average yellow jacket wasp nest on privately-owned hunting ground in Central Florida, he expected to have his work cut out for him.

But he certainly never expected to find himself battling to the death against the Mother of All Wasp Nests.

"I have never seen a nest this large in my entire life," Simkins told WFLA. "This is the prehistoric nest from the dinosaur ages."

An everyday nest, Simkins says, might contain anywhere between 1,000 to 5,000 insects. The Jurassic nest, by comparison, may have contained "more than a million."

Simkins set out to eliminate the six-by-eight-foot beast, only to find himself being attacked by countless worker wasps.

"I have to be honest with you, I was terrified at one point," he told the local NBC affiliate, "and there were several times that I had to pull out and get a breather. My heart rate was racing, I had hundreds of them on my veil." (via)

Beloved indie film actress turned beloved television actress Chloë Sevigny, in addition to her upcoming duties as "Shelly the Nymphomaniac" on the new mental asylum-set season of American Horror Story, is joining the cast of Portlandia for the wacky, bobo hipster-skewing IFC show's third season. She'll be playing some lady who moves in with the two leads, Fred and Carrie, and, I dunno, probably does silly stuff. There's no word on how many episodes she's going to be in, but it sounds like maybe more than one? Which is very exciting! Who doesn't like Chloë Sevigny? And she's a perfect fit for Portlandia. In that, y'know, she can kind of make fun of herself. Of course she's more glam indie than crunchy indie, which is the show's chief focus, but it's all kind of tangled up with each other at this point, isn't it? Anyway, point is, this is good news. Back in February, scaremaster Ryan Murphy teased that the second season of American Horror Story would involve a “horror institution” on the East Coast. Now the series’ co-creator has revealed what that institution is — as well as which familiar face will be running the joint.

According to Murphy, the show’s sophomore season “is set on the East Coast at an institution for the criminally insane that is run by Jessica [Lange].” He revealed the news yesterday at a TV Academy panel in North Hollywood. As The Hollywood Reporter points out, AHS‘s season 1 episode “Birth” contained a clue about this setting; in one scene, a medium played by Sarah Paulson notes that certain places, like prisons or asylums (or Murder Houses), tend to be filled with a negative energy that feeds on trauma and pain.

But don’t expect to see Lange reprise her role as cruel, campy Constance Langdon. Instead, she’ll be playing a new character altogether — fitting, since Murphy also explained that season 2 “is set in a completely different time period.” (via)
