"China Airlines is a proud corporate sponsor of the panda snactuary at Cheng Du and was happy to help out recently with the transfer of a young panda cub to a zoo in the United States of America.
After extensive consultation with the Sanctury's veterinary staff it was concluded that the importance of the panda cub precluded it from traveling in the hold of the aircraft, where attending to its needs would be difficult. Thus China Airlines agreed to donate seats in its Business Traveler First cabin for the panda cub named Squee Squee and his carer, Fu Jiang Lang, seen here sitting in the window seat." via buzzfeed via jalopnik
Would you just look at him! He likes to have a blanket on his lap on the airplane JUST LIKE PEOPLE.

please welcome.....a rOcK hYrAx!!!!!!
please welcome.....a rOcK hYrAx!!!!!!
here are the things you need to know about a rock hyrax:
guess what their closest relative is. you'll never guess. srsly there is no way you could ever see THIS coming. that explains why they don't have chins. moving on. i know they're the cutest thing you've seen all day, but they live mostly in africa, so don't try to go out looking for them. their feet never get too dry, because they sweat out the bottom of them. also, they are draculas. they don't have to beg for nicknames, because they already have them. you can call them "dassies" or "rock rabbits", even though those make no sense at all. oh, and they poop as soon as they're born.
I'M GOING TO TRY TO GIT ONE!!

the zoo welcomed into the world a new baby okapi earlier this year, and she just made her public debut a couple of weeks ago! her name is m'bura (strikingly similar to the abbreviation for murfreesboro, which is m'boro...).
M’bura, an okapi calf revealed to the public at the Bronx Zoo last week after more than 18 months of delicate husbandry work, was stretching out her stubby zebra-striped legs before a crowd of young admirers on Thursday.
“It’s a zebra horse!” said Dagney Donaldson, 7, of Summit, N.J.
Not exactly. Okapis are the only known relative of the giraffe, but with the silhouette of an antelope. They are notoriously skittish, so adept at avoiding other animals in the wild — including other okapis — that Western researchers didn’t even document their existence until 1901.
To breed such an antisocial animal in captivity requires a mix of patience, genetic know-how and romantic savoir-faire. Potential mates are slowly and strategically introduced over weeks, and newborn calves — which do not defecate for the first month of their lives to avoid detection in the wild — are left untouched by humans to preserve the fragile mother-child bond.
So as M’bura, now a healthy 5-month-old, gallops around her shady habitat in the Bronx, zoo officials are taking a victory lap of their own. (via)ceeeeYUTE!! can't wait to meet you, murfreesboro!!

i love nancy pelosi!
there. i said it.
there are three parts. i recommend watching them all. my favorite moments are when 1) she says "bless their hearts" about the republicans, and 2) she says the answer to all of our problems is more women in politics.

via Harper, an 11-week-old pit bull born with a debilitating disorder commonly known as “swimmer puppy disorder,” was found in a trash bag and brought to a shelter to be euthanized. Dogs with pectus excavatum can’t walk and aren’t expected to survive, but Harper was lucky enough to find shelter regular Erica Daniel, who took the puppy home and, with a little TLC, slowly helped Harper learn to stand on her own four paws.

robot dog
Naki’o's tragic life — his owners abandoned him as a puppy when their Nebraska home was foreclosed, and he lost his paws to frostbite after getting stuck in an icy puddle — took a turn for the best when he was adopted by veterinary technician Christie Tomlinson, who raised funds necessary to purchase prosthetics for Naki’o's hind legs.
