new snuffles album
Following (very) closely on the heels of last week's surprise All Delighted People EP comes news of a brand new Sufjan Stevens full-length. The Age of Adz will be released by Asthmatic Kitty on October 12. ("Adz" is pronounced "odds," a press release tells us.) (via)

harnessing the power of the internet...
...to make telephone calls.
Google entered a new business beyond Internet search on Wednesday with a service within Gmail to make phone calls over the Web to landlines or cellphones.
The service will thrust Google into direct competition with Skype, the Internet telephone company, and with telecommunications providers. It could also make Google a more ubiquitous part of people’s social interactions by uniting the service for phone calls with e-mail, text messages and video chats.
“It’s one place where you can get in touch with the people that you care about, and how that happens from a network perspective is less important,” said Charles S. Golvin, a telecommunications analyst at Forrester Research.
Gmail has offered voice and video chat for two years, but both parties must be at their computers. Google said the new service would work well for people in a spot with poor cellphone reception or for those making a quick call from their desk. (via)thx googz!

jim furyk oversleeps, misses professional golf tee time.
American golfer and world number six, Jim Furyk, was kicked out of the first FedEx Cup play-off on Wednesday after missing his tee-off time by oversleeping.
Furyk, 40, told the official website of PGA Tour that he set an alarm on his cell phone which ran out of power overnight and failed to wake him up.
"The hotel had power ... but somehow my phone died. I never use a backup because I just figure if the phone is charged, I'm good to go," Furyk said.
After waking five minutes before he was due to start playing, Furyk made a dash from his hotel to the course but failed to get to the 11th tee of The Barclays tournament in New Jersey in time.
Injury or family emergency are the only reasons that excuse a player's absence, consequently, Furyk will miss Thursday's planned round with countryman Steve Stricker and Ernie Els of South Africa. (via)ctm. that suxxx.

not in my back yard!
two stories this week about what new yorkers (and out-of-towners) don't want built in our fair city:
a lot of people have been saying that feisal abdul rauf, the imam heading up the park 51 community center in tribeca, has connections to unsavory people in countries like saudi arabia. perhaps i was wrong about defending this whole "ground zero mosque thing".
saudi prince alwaleed bin talal has donated over $300,000 into the park 51 project, and also heads the kingdom foundation, which supposedly funds radical madrasas. that's not good, and personally it's enough to make me second guess myself. any institution having a connection to a radical saudi prince is clearly a terrorist organization.
also deeply connected to prince alwaleed bin talal? fox news. outside of the murdoch family, prince alwaleed is the largest share holder of news corp, the parent company of FNN. woooooooooopppsss! i was just joking about that whole second guessing thing. they should definitely build that mosque. [wnd]
in other news:

With the amount of controversy greeting the proposed construction of 15 Penn Plaza, you would think Muslims wanted to pray inside of it. The owner of the empire state building is unhappy about a proposed 1,216 ft tall skyscraper a few blocks from the 1,250 ft tall landmark. they believe it will destroy new york's iconic skyline. it's an interesting comparison to the park 51 controversy, as this land use issue has none of the religious, political or emotional pitfalls faced by the islamic community center. i would be interested to know if sarah palin "refudiates" this planned development for it's unnecessary and provocative impact on the city's skyline. probably not. she's never been big on conservation.
kylie thinks 15 penn plaza looks like an uncircumcised penis, and i have to agree. we already have one of those in jersey city, thank you very much.
update: (the city council has taken the first step to approving the 15 penn plaza design)

"Lulu likes to snuggle with her Quail toy."
"Pupu likes to stand pretty while I take pictures."

bloomberg = totes exactly right
mayor bloomberg spoke yesterday, defending the "ground zero mosque" aka tribeca muslim clurb.
"But if we say that a mosque and community center should not be built near the perimeter of the World Trade Center site, we would compromise our commitment to fighting terror with freedom.
"We would undercut the values and principles that so many heroes died protecting. We would feed the false impressions that some Americans have about Muslims. We would send a signal around the world that Muslim Americans may be equal in the eyes of the law, but separate in the eyes of their countrymen. And we would hand a valuable propaganda tool to terrorist recruiters, who spread the fallacy that America is at war with Islam.
"Islam did not attack the World Trade Center-–Al-Qaeda did. To implicate all of Islam for the actions of a few who twisted a great religion is unfair and un-American. Today we are not at war with Islam—we are at war with Al-Qaeda and other extremists who hate freedom. (via)i just think his speech very eloquently and clearly explains exactly how us rational folks feel about this controversial topic. i hope everyone chills and stops stabbing each other.
ktp
where do i start.
i spent the morning listening to katy perry's new album, teenage dream. and omg 11 CHICKEN biscuits!!
i spent about 4 minutes of the morning blushing, giggling, and fighting back tears while listening to this gem. i'll do you the honor of providing lyrics so you can follow along.
I wanna see your peacock, cock, cock
Your peacock, cock
Your peacock, cock, cock
Your peacock
I wanna see your peacock, cock, cock
Your peacock, cock
Your peacock, cock, cock
Your peacock
Word on the street, you got somethin' to show me, ee
Magical, colorful, Mr. Mystery, ee
I'm intrigued, for a peek, Heard it's fascinating
Words are mislead
Such a tease
Wanna see the show
In 3D, a movie
Heard it's beautiful
Be the judge
And my girls gonna take a bow
I want the jaw droppin, eye popin, head turnin, body shockin
(Uh, uh, oh, Uh, uh, uh, oh)
I want my heart throbbin, ground shakin, show stoppin, amazin
(Uh, uh, oh, Uh, uh, uh, oh)
Are you brave enough to let me see your peacock?
Don't be a chicken boy, stop acting like a beeotch
I'ma peace out if you don't give me the pay off
Come on baby let me see
What you're hiding underneath
Are you brave enough to let me see your peacock?
What you're waiting for, it's time for you to show it off
Don't be a shy kinda guy I'll bet it's beautiful
Come on baby let me see
Whatchu hidin' underneath
I wanna see your peacock, cock, cock
Your peacock, cock
Your peacock, cock, cock
Your peacock
I wanna see your peacock, cock, cock
Your peacock, cock
Your peacock, cock, cock
Your peacock
enjoy.
