well one of them had a seizure or a drug overdose or something and the police responded and they shot the guy's dog because it was snapping at passers by and basically protecting his owner's body. The dog, named Star is not dead, so don't worry.

The Manhattan district attorney’s office is investigating an accusation that Greg Kelly, a local television anchor who is a son of Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly, raped a young woman in Lower Manhattan last October, law enforcement officials and Greg Kelly’s lawyer said Wednesday.

Police detectives initially interviewed the woman late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning, one of the law enforcement officials said. 

But because of the conflict presented by the Police Department’s investigating a sexual assault accusation against the commissioner’s son, the case was handed over on Wednesday to the office of the Manhattan district attorney, Cyrus R. Vance Jr. 

Mr. Kelly, 43, denied the accusation in a statement by his lawyer, Andrew M. Lankler, that was released Wednesday evening. (via)

The University of California, Davis, said Sunday that two police officers had been placed on administrative leave after using pepper spray on seated protesters at the campus on Friday during a demonstration aligned with Occupy Wall Street.

Videos of the encounter, widely distributed over the Internet, showed two police officers in riot gear dousing the protesters with pepper spray as they sat on a sidewalk with their arms entwined. (via)

As reported by the Oakland Tribune, yesterday Berkeley students held a rally to protest privatization and increased education costs. To show solidarity with the Occupy Everywhere movement, some of the protesters set up tents on Sproul Plaza. When riot gear cops showed up to remove the tents, the students reportedly "linked arms and formed a circle" around their camp. Naturally, this resulted in a showdown, police batons a-waving, and multiple arrests. According to the Daily Californian, seven protesters were led away in cuffs, while several others were treated for stomach, arm, and head injuries caused by those batons. (via)

At around 9:30 p.m., there was a tense faceoff between protesters and police officers on Broadway at 14th Street. About 100 officers, some appearing to be sheriff’s deputies, stood behind a metal barricade in full riot gear and wearing gas masks, while on the other side people pressed against the barricade, waving peace signs and chanting slogans. A few protesters hurled objects — what looked like water bottles — at the police, while over a loud speaker, officers instructed people to disperse or risk “chemical agents.”

Shortly after 9:30 p.m. the announcements stopped. Moments later, the police began firing canisters of tear gas into the crowd. Many people ran, but a few protesters wearing gas masks stayed and continued to throw things at the police. Those who had been affected by the gas coughed repeatedly and appeared to weep. Police in Berlin are asking for help in identifying a mysterious English-speaking 17-year-old who suddenly showed up at City Hall claiming he had been living in the woods for the past five years.

The teenager, who gave authorities his date of birth and a name — Ray — says he and his father entered the forest after his mother died, and have been living in tents and huts ever since.

He told police he began his trek back to civilization after his father passed away two weeks ago.

“Ray” says he doesn’t know his parents names, nor can recall anything about his life before the forest. “He can speak English very well, fluently in fact, but only speaks basic German,” said Berlin police spokesman Klaus Schubert. “It might be possible that he comes from Britain because he’s speaking English very fluently.”

A continent-wide appeal for assistance has been issued through Interpol after his description failed to match any missing persons report dating back to the late 1990s.

He is said to be physically fit, but may have experienced psychological trauma resulting in memory loss.

During a public engagement last week, Baltimore Police Commissioner Frederick H. Bealefeld described David Simon's show The Wire as "a smear on this city that will take decades to overcome." He went on to cite the tenacious and glamorous cop shows that other cities like New York, Las Vegas, and Miami are blessed with. Why doesn't Baltimore merit such pretty and hardworking cops? Hmmm.

Simon responded : "Others might reasonably argue, however that it is not sixty hours of The Wire that will require decades for our city to overcome, as the commissioner claims. A more lingering problem might be two decades of bad performance by a police agency more obsessed with statistics than substance, with appeasing political leadership rather than seriously addressing the roots of city violence, with shifting blame rather than taking responsibility."
