nErD aLeRt!

there must be an architecture arsonist terrorizing china. Zaha Hadid's Guangzhou Opera House caught fire a couple months before it was supposed to open.

remember what happened to rem's job?

new york harbor

have you ever wondered whats going on out there? nymag has an informative article about what is in that water between brooklyn and manhattan, and on the other side to keep new jersey out.

apparently the water is thick with fishies, big scary mice, shipwrecks, dead bodies, millions of dollars, shit, and other secret stuff we dont want the terrorists knowing about.

makes you want to go for a swim?

my rihanna post

your rihanna news update:

1) she has a new single out featuring another of my obsessions (not that one) Lady Gaga. nymag calls it the "comeback of a lifetime,"  but i think that we can all agree that taking a couple months off to have the bruises on your face and ego heal after being attacked by your boyfriend is justified. not really a comeback per se if she never really left our hearts and minds

2) yes i saw them, you can see them too (NSFW), but it just isnt important. like cassie said, stop acting like you never seen a titty before

3) turns out that madonna stole rihanna's louis look for the met gala. turned out ok though!

4) PS... the single is awesome, cant wait for the new album

From NYT: "The Encores! production of “The Wiz,” starring Ashanti [YES!!] as Dorothy and LaChanze as Glinda the good witch, will run at City Center from June 12 through July 5."--And THEY JUST CAST TOTO!!

Check out this lil guy:

More about him: "In a news release, City Center said that Toto would be played by Nigel, a brindle-hair Cairn Terrier who was born in Arkansas about 20 months ago, and scouted by Bill Berloni, an animal trainer and the director of animal behavior for the Humane Society of New York, who discovered Nigel on the Humane Society’s Web site.

In a statement, Mr. Berloni said: 'After thirty years of rescuing dogs for Broadway shows which began with Sandy (who shot to stardom in the original production of ‘Annie’), I know talent when I see it. After speaking to the shelter about his personality I knew he had star potential. I predict a great future for him.'

Nigel is currently making his out-of-town debut as Toto in Pittsburgh, in the Woodlands High School production of 'The Wizard of Oz.'"

I want that.

(WXYZ) - The hat that dazzled millions of people during the inauguration of President Barack Obama, is now being offered as a Christmas ornament. Aretha Franklin's stylish big-bowed hat was the inspiration for the glittery-glass ornament. The ornament's designer hopes it too will be a big fashion hit. Curtis Posuniak is the brain-child behind the ornament. He says the minute he saw Aretha's hat he knew he wanted to make a tiny glass version of it [OYR].

Nothing wrong with it [Boy George reading that book]

At least you have hands to type your sorrows with.

After a breakup, it's natural to want to email your friends so they can commiserate with you. And according to Google, it's also natural to bombard your fragile soul with opportunistic ads.

yikes.

Published in 2003, Ms. Mason’s memoir, “Breath,” is not well known outside the Southeast, or perhaps even outside North Carolina, where she was born, grew up and died. It was published by a small regional house, Down Home Press, and was not widely reviewed. But the truly significant thing is that the book was written at all.

Ms. Mason died on Monday at her home in Lattimore, N.C. She was 71 and had lived for more than 60 years in an iron lung. (nytimes)

thx g.

i told yall.

"Poor man's butter," they used to call avocados when my father was a child. (Now they would more aptly be described as "rich man's butter.") (nytimes)

thx meriel!

an en vogue reunion

en vogue was on the view this morning to promote their 20 year anniversary reunion tour. remember when they were on a different world as the old cook's dowdy young nieces who got a makeover into pretty young things.
