i want that.

Shake Shack just announced some major collaborations in honor of their ten-year anniversary. And we mean major. Between June 9th and June 13th, New York burger lovers can indulge in variations on the classic Shake Shack burger by the likes of April Bloomfield (Breslin beef-blend burger topped with all-natural applewood smoked bacon and Tickler English cheddar cheese sauce), David Chang (Shack beef-blend cheeseburger topped with smoked and griddled shrimp patty, Momofuku Hozon Sauce, Bibb lettuce, pickled onion and salted cucumber), Daniel Boulud (Shack beef-blend topped with DBGB’s BBQ pulled pork, jalepeƱo mayo, Boston lettuce and mustard-vinegar slaw), and more. There’s even a special beer collaboration with Brooklyn Brewery! (via)

meow!! let me-out!

About 1,000 cats were rescued in China from a delivery truck that had stalled on its way to restaurants. What I'm trying to say is that these cats were about to get eat up.

In other news, Emilube can't wait to move to China for some reason. via

cinque di mayo

"...Now it seems we’ll have further need for an elastic waistband, when Thompson brings back the goods for Cinco de Mayo. On May 5 at L’Artusi’s sister restaurant Anfora, he'll take scissors to some Frito bags and stuff them with chile con carne, pico de gallo, and plenty of shredded cheese, for a mere five bucks. Several margarita specials should loosen any inhibitions about scarfing straight from the Fritos bag."

that's a lot of food and the internet is for jerks

First of all, I don't care if you say "you can't cook," you should not be ordering 2.6 meals a day delivered to you. That's IN. SANE.

Second of all, I had no idea you could order cookies, where would i get cookies from? That's a good idea.

Third of all, the internet takes issue with these statistics (of course)

  1. James says:

There stats on the Pizza are a little off… 800,000 Pizzas at 3 inches per box is 2.4 million inches or 200,000 feet…
That would make each story 1ft 4in tall…
And… even if right… I didn’t know the empire state building was 1000 stories tall!?!?! DOH!
  2. John says:

    Aww poor seamless. . .

They’re good at getting food delivered. . . we don’t pay for them to compile statistics! (thankgod :P)

    UPDATE!!!!!

    Shannon says:
While there is certainly a typo in the pizzas category (The Empire is NOT 1000 stories tall), it is accurate, at approximately 3″ per pizza box, that it the height would be the same as 150 Empire State Buildings for 800,000 pizzas. Check the height of the Empire State Building and do the math. It DOES add up.

eating chipotle is ethical.

and also delicious.
Good food is a complicated topic. As is often the case, the best approach depends on your ethical priorities and personal constraints. Some animal-rights advocates emphasize the need to eat humanely raised meat; others hold out for vegetarianism or veganism. Environmentalists worry about pesticides, soil depletion, and the energy used in producing ingredients. Grad students get curious about plant-based proteins.
The interesting thing about Chipotle, the burrito and taco chain, is that it has tried to tackle all these goals and more. Its “Food with Integrity” philosophy calls for free-range meat, hormone-free dairy, and locally sourced produce when practical. For more than ten years, Chipotle has bought its pork through Niman Ranch, a sustainable farm based in California. As of last year, for example, all of the beef in its barbacoa is naturally raised, meaning that the cows are not treated with hormones or antibiotics, and they are fed an entirely vegetarian diet. (via)
well, all that did was make me hungry.

homemade crunchwrap supreme night!

you may have heard that there's a way to enjoy a delicious crunchwrap supreme in the comfort of your own home, using fresh ingredients. well, tonight, joel, liz herber, and i decided it was time to try it ourselves. let me tell you how we did it.
step 1 : put on some really great cooking music
step 2 : put a delicious mexican beer in your favorite koozie
step 3 : heat up some small corn tortillas in your oven. look really cute while doing so, or else they won't taste right. (note the amazing kitty card in background, compliments of thomas wilhelm)
step 4 : take a cup and make circle pieces out of a large flour tortilla. it is important that the cup be tennessee orange.
step 5 : chop up tomatoes, lettuce, and chicken breast. cook the chicken in a pan with any seasonings you might like! on a large flour tortilla, lay down some chicken, nacho cheese, and shredded mexi-mix cheese.
step 6 : place a crunchy warm small corn tortilla on top, spread some sour cream around on it, and top with chopped lettuce and diced tomatoes.
step 7 : cover with a flour tortilla cup-circle, and fold up bottom tortilla around, enveloping the deliciousness. slap it in a pan with a bit of oil and grill it up right.
step 8 : serve and enjoy with good friends!

you're welcome!

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – It's a good spring for strawberry lovers: Prices are unusually low in many places because cold weather delayed Florida's harvest to coincide with California's, and the two states are flooding the market with cheap berries. (via)

what's for dinner?????

here's a deceptively creepy picture of what was actually a nice, delicious meal prepared and enjoyed by rachel, emily, midge, and i last night. emily roasted a gd chicken. all by herself! and john made these brusselsprouts, in an attempt to convince me to like them. they were good....but i could only eat 2. it takes me about 60 seconds to chew one, so. i made paula deen's crockpot mac-n-cheese, which was just ok. rachel made a blueberry cobbler-y thing, which was delicious even if, as she said, her inability to find apple filling lost some points on the 'all-american' theme. i thought it was as american as blueberry cobbler, myself. and, of course, we polished things off with some tall, cool, bud lights.
