i've always wondered about this.

For those who ask me what my notifications look like when I turn them on 🙈💃🏻🤗 #IloveYouAll

A video posted by Jen Selter (@jenselter) on

Perhaps inspired by footballer Demy de Zeeuw, who made a video of his notifications that went modestly viral last week, Selter decided to see what would happen if she switched on notifications. With 8.4 million followers, and hundreds of thousands of likes and comments on every photo she posts, this is what her notifications looked like on Monday. (via)

STAR STUFF

the hubble telescope has been taking photos of this star explosion for the past four years.
in other star related news, i downloaded the "SkyView Free" app on my iphone this weekend and i highly recommend it if you are going to be looking up at all during these upcoming summer nights. it gives you all the information you are looking for and has some handy adjustable features. YOU ARE IN SPACE.

there is a purse for sale here that acts as an extra charger that you can use during the day.
granted, you have to charge your purse and your phone at night, but, it's still a pretty awesome idea.

HeTexted

have you ever been asked by a friend to read a text message from a boy and try to decipher what it could possibly mean? have you ever showed your own phone to a friend to find out if a confusing text message is actually confusing, or if you are just confused by reading too much into it? have you ever wanted to crowdsource an answer? here is your chance. HeTexted lets you expose your vulnerable underbelly so that the internet can mock you and your inability to figure out that the guy just isn't that into you. via

oops!

finally, i'm relieved of my guilt of never having listened to this piece:
This American Life has retracted "Mike Daisey Goes to the Apple Factory," the story that arguably started the recent spate of articles examining Apple manufacturer Foxconn, because a Marketplace reporter discovered Daisey had lied about the facts.  (via)

iphone question

tomorrow, i'll finally be retiring my blackberry and entering 2010 by upgrading to an iphone. you're welcome. now. for some reason, every single iphone owner i've asked this question (liz, john, grace, etc.) has some lame excuse about why they can't answer it. maybe you can help.

can you just tell me how much data you use per month on average? i reckon i'll have to pick a plan, and i just want to be prepared.

thanks in advance for being soooooo helpful!

UPDATE! i just talked to verizon and they are going to let me keep on rolling with my unlimited family plan as well. thanks, dad!

the internet is talking about...

Something's going around the internet. it's called the phone stack. Basically, it's a game where when each member of the party arrives at the table they place their phone face down in a stack. Over the course of dinner you eat and converse like human beings. If your phone buzzes, you have to leave it be or pay the price (literally). The first person to touch their phone before the bill comes loses the game and dinner's on them.

I think we (that means you too) are pretty controlled as a group when it comes to being present when we are together, but I like this idea. We should try it one time.

should you buy verizon's iphone?

by most accounts, yes! this review is the most helpful one i've read, breaking down the differences between the iphones on at+t and verizon without getting all nerdy and boring.
I took the Verizon iPhone to five cities, including the two Bermuda Triangles of AT&T reception: San Francisco and New York. Holding AT&T and Verizon iPhones side by side in the passenger seat of a car, I dialed 777-FILM simultaneously, and then rode around until a call dropped. (Why that number? Because I wanted to call a landline, eliminating the other person’s cell reception from the equation. Also, Mr. Moviefone can carry the entire conversation by himself, so I could concentrate on the testing.)
In San Francisco, the AT&T phone dropped the call four times in 30 minutes of driving; the Verizon phone never did. The Verizon iPhone also held its line in several Manhattan intersections where the AT&T call died. At a Kennedy airport gate, the AT&T phone couldn’t even find a signal; the Verizon dialed with a smug yawn. (via)
i'm gonna wait for the iphone5, in case you were wondering.

Consumer Reports has a new review that ranks AT&T at the bottom of the list of cell-phone carriers, based on a survey of 58,000 readers. The top-rated carrier in the survey is U.S. Cellular, and Sprint and Verizon tied for second. (via)
