definitely going to see this with thomas wilhelm.

One of the most intriguing — and most discussed — films at this year’s Sundance Film Festival is a curious documentary called The Nightmare, which recounts and restages the experiences of various people who suffer from extreme forms of sleep paralysis. The subject is fascinating enough on its own, but The Nightmare was directed by Rodney Ascher, who made a splash at the 2012 festival with Room 237, his experimental documentary about different, out-there interpretations of Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining. As might be expected, The Nightmare, not unlike the previous film, is by turns playful, probing, and terrifying. (via)

the conjuring (clap clap!)

my neighbor pete told me that this movie was so scary it got an R rating with no sex, nudity, or gore. and when the producers asked what they could take out to get it down to PG-13 they were told "nothing." (because every part of it is so terrifying.)

who's coming with me?

23 August 2010

that. just. happened.

Tales of reptiles in the sewers have long been part of New York City lore, though they have been largely discounted as urban legend.
But here is the true story of a two-foot-long creature that Joyce Hackett came across in Queens on Sunday afternoon. She was on her way to a store that sells salvaged building materials when she missed her turn for Astoria Boulevard. So she turned around. She pulled up to the intersection of Newtown Avenue and 29th Street when she noticed a police officer and a small crowd of people clustered around a blue car.
She parked her car and got out to see what all the fuss was about. People were pointing under the car and taking pictures. That is when she saw it. (via)

radioactive chernobyl boars

According to reporter Charles Hawley, "as Germany's wild boar population has skyrocketed in recent years, so too has the number of animals contaminated by radioactivity left over from the Chernobyl meltdown," which took place almost 25 years ago.
Apparently, mushrooms and truffles, which the hogs like to eat, are "particularly efficient at absorbing radioactivity." (via)

Kumaritashvili, 21 was training at the Whistler Olympic Park when he lost control of his sled near the finish, flipped off his sled and was hurled into a metal pole. He was going close to 93 miles/hour (150 km/h) according to the Sun. (via)
