DOUBLE TORNADO

A storm in Nebraska produced an extremely rare pair of tornadoes this evening as it tracked through the northeastern part of the state. Multiple vortices are common in the strongest tornadoes (think Joplin), but two large, distinct tornadoes side-by-side like this is almost unprecedented. (via)

Closer to home, a cool Canadian high pressure system sits over the lower Hudson Valley this morning, bringing us a cool, clear and dry day. Except for a few thin cirrus clouds we're in for a sunny afternoon and a high in the mid 70s. The high slips offshore and the wind will start coming out of the south overnight, providing us with a mostly cloudy Tuesday with a high in the lower 80s. 

Warmer, more humid weather is in store for Wednesday. Could it be the last 90-degree day of the year? The heat, humidity and an approaching cold front cry out for us to say there will be a slight chance of showers or thunderstorms starting Wednesday afternoon, and an even better chance on Thursday. Thursday's high will probably be in the mid 80s. Much cooler air is expected to arrive next weekend.

Starting on Sunday and lasting two or three days, the worst hurricane/ thunderstorm/ snow cloud/ high tide is about to sit right on top of your neighborhood and take a weather dump. Snowicane Sandy has already claimed the precious lives of two Caribbean Islanders, including a Haitian lady who tried to cross a flooded stream and a Jamaican man who was crushed by a boulder that fell from up high. True story. NYC doesn't have a lot of boulders, but you know what we do have a lot of? STREAMS AND THINGS UP HIGH.

this grate at grand central was throwing up after that freak rain cloud yesterday. it got on people! i have heard it from a confidential source that someone walked through this trash water puddle and then went to thomas wilhelms house and put their feet up on the coffee table. true story.
