memphis pastors and civil rights leaders unite

...against gay people.

there is a proposal from a council member to amend the non-discrimination clause to include LGBT people, so that gays and lesbians can't be fired from their jobs just because of their orientation in Shelby County.

im surprised this isnt already the law everywhere, but for some reason this seems to be raising quite a stink here in the bluff city. former leaders of the civil rights movement have joined forces with white suburban conservative ministers to denounce the proposed change.

its really sad when you have a leader of the community with a reputation for supporting the rights of black americans turning around and saying that he didnt walk one step in the protests for civil rights in the 60s for gay people. gobbles my goop. being gay isnt a choice, being black isnt a choice. lets move forward.
