bout damn time am i right?

and we made it to neyland! sorry it took me so long; had to climb those hills! isn't it lovely?

here's the new gate 21. kinda pretty i guess, and the new plaza is nice, but it's gonna take some getting used to.

and here's the new face of the luxury boxes and tennessee terrace (where i sat). we'll go in in a minute.

first, let's pay our respects to general robert neyland. he's the the white one the one in the middle.

we're up inside the tennessee terrace. lokk at those graphics! they're pretty big. jussayin'.

turn your head sideways and you'll see kylie's bicycle.

i can see hodges from here!

game time!

2 good 2 b true?

Ah, our government hard at work: Late last night, the Senate unanimously passed a bill banning extremely loud television commercials. Cable companies and TV stations are now required to keep ads at the same volume as shows, so you won’t hurt yourself when surprised by unexpectedly shrieky ads (or, like, even have to look for the remote and hit the mute button). Our condolences to the Defending Useless Annoying Things lobby for not getting that filibuster organized in time. from nymag

gameover, pack. it. in.

people just cannot stop talking about how auburn is the best AND super classy. here are some quotes from an article in the daily gamecock, the student newspaper of the university of south carolina, about how auburn truly is the loveliest village on the plains :

"it almost felt like there was a planned hospitality committee in this gorgeous, quaint town on the plains. we all were in awe- the only rude fans we saw were wearing garnet and black."

"jordan-hare stadium was an incredible experience due to a raucous crowd, a fantastic gameday environment and a gorgeous eagle that swooped over the stadium and sat on the sideline."

"this small town was the best of the best. before the game, friends told us all the campus was like clemson. not true. this place was pristine with class. it had character. and the people had character. they even recycled."

"thank you, auburn. you set the standard for what SEC football should be. if we have to lose, we'll lose there every time. from what we saw, you gave us the best of the south and the best college football has to offer."
you are entirely welcome!

and i know starla will love to hear what they thought of poopy old georgia :

"sure, other schools are rude. LSU and georgia are among the worst."
omg, tmai! this is perhaps the finest piece of journalism i have ever laid my eyes on.

well, i said it once, and i'll say it again, SUCK ON IT!!!!!! YEAH!!!!! we are kla$$ier than you can ever hope to be. way more kla$$i than a bunch of dumb old gamedicks. so just give up and go home! take a lesson from auburn on how to behave bitches!!!! YEAH!!!! WAR EAGLE!!!!

david sedaris has a new book coming out!

In his new book, Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary, writer, radio star, and amateur zoologist David Sedaris takes an artistic leap away from memoir and essay to channel a dark and dirty Aesop. In sixteen brief tales, Sedaris introduces readers to snotty warblers, lab rats who experience Schadenfreude, and a certain parasite that sings in a hippo’s butt. Children’s book author Ian Falconer (of Olivia books fame) illustrated the volume with warm, gorgeous illustrations — yes, even of the hippo’s butt. (via)

Not content with robust business from the late-night, post-drinking munchies crowd, the nation's only 24-hour Domino’s Pizza is going after breakfast, too.
The new Domino's unit in Dayton, Ohio — which franchisee Tristan Koehler opened in time for the start of the fall semester at the University of Dayton — is offering a breakfast pizza featuring eggs and cheese on a pizza crust for $7.99. (via)

Nine-year-old Mackenzie Foy has been cast as Renesmee, and EW reports that the actress will play the younger (but fast-aging) character using Benjamin Button–style facial-transfer trickery. If the special effects are anywhere near as good as the Twilight saga's terrible CG wolves, we are in for some solid gold right here. (via)

well, that's interesting.

turns out atheists and jews know more about the bible than christians!

Researchers from the independent Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life phoned more than 3,400 Americans and asked them 32 questions about the Bible, Christianity and other world religions, famous religious figures and the constitutional principles governing religion in public life.
On average, people who took the survey answered half the questions incorrectly, and many flubbed even questions about their own faith.
Those who scored the highest were atheists and agnostics, as well as two religious minorities: Jews and Mormons. The results were the same even after the researchers controlled for factors like age and racial differences. (via)

genius news.

jicydak, i just started watching the wire on dvd. every wednesday, lillywhitefish and i (and sometimes g.animalz, too. if attendees were vowels, she would be the Y.) have wire wednesdays, during which i try to power through as many episodes as possible before lilly falls asleep on the couch (last week, we made it through .5). joel started with us when he was visiting, and now he's also watching them at home. we just finished season one, but he's probably farther along.

we all love the show, so you can imagine my delight to hear this morning that its creator, david simon, was just awarded a macarthur genius grant!
David Simon, creator of the HBO television series "The Wire," is among 23 recipients of this year's MacArthur Foundation "genius grants" - news that left him with what he described as "a vague sense of guilt."
The $500,000 grants were announced Tuesday by the Chicago-based John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. The money, paid quarterly over five years, comes with no strings, allowing winners unfettered freedom to pursue their creativity.
Simon's guilt stemmed from already being amply funded in an industry that's "a little bit recession-proof," he said. Still, the award's prestige will go far with network executives. While critically acclaimed, Simon's dissection of urban problems in "The Wire" and more recently "Treme" hasn't yet scored Emmys or high Nielsen ratings.
"It makes it easier to go into the room with the network and argue against doing the usual thing in television," Simon said. His next pitch? The history of the CIA since World War II and a housing desegregation fight in Yonkers are two subjects inspiring him now. "Not all these things have the best possible commercial outlook," he said. trendspotting : throat-slashing!

you might recall joel's little internet rule of three, wherein he sees something on the internet three times, and assigns some kind of arbitrary and excessive significance to it. well, he's not the only one with an eye out for today's hottest trends. i'm here to tell you about a little observation i've made, involving the latest fashion in rage: throat-slashing.

allow me to illustrate:

first, this white guy slashed his cab driver's throat just because he said he was a muslim! theeeeeenn, this guy slashed his college's dean's throat, just because he was possessed by satan! and last night, a diplomat was found on the floor of his apartment in the bronx, dead from a throat-slashing, just for being a nicaraguan!

point is, if you have any hope of earning the approval of your peers this fall, head on out and pick up the season's must-have accessories: a sharp knife and a short fuse.

you look great, girl. you'll be out in no time.

everyone just loved lil p-nut last time.

so here is some more of our favorite memphis child rapper

everybody look at isabella.

auburn is the best!

a few quotes from the 'gameday' crew, about their experience on auburn's campus last weekend:

"the fans are great, the campus is beautiful...i love it here."

"auburn might be the most charming campus, town, atmosphere and environment in all of the southeast...it's just a great mix of tradition, academic emphasis and football."

"we've always said, and we said it last night in our production meeting for gameday, auburn is one of the most respectful crowds in terms of its fan base...i think that there are two reasons for that. not only is it the manners of all the people here, but i also think there is a respect and appreciation for the sport itself. obviously, everyone loves their team, but i think they love the sport as well. you don't find that everywhere."

so we're the best AND the most polite. SUCK ON THAT YOU A-HOLES!!!!111 YEAH! WAR EAGLE!!!!
