There was plenty of good music this year. Some old favorites produced career best albums, and some new (to me) bands really took over my ipod. These are the ones that I loved, and my favorite song from each album. What were your favorites?

All Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl tickets to the general public were sold by Wednesday, three days after it was announced Tennessee would play North Carolina at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 30.
Three of the 12 Music City Bowls have been sellouts, including the first season, which was at Vanderbilt Stadium (41,600 capacity) between Alabama and Virginia Tech in 1998.
Two previous bowl games at LP Field (69,143 capacity) have sold out — 2006 (Kentucky-Clemson) and 2007 (Kentucky-Florida State). (via)
LP field is like half as big as neyland, so what did you expect i mean come on.
well, i saw that movie everyone's been talking about. black swan, starring natalie portman, mila kunis, vincent cassel, barbara hershey, and (surprise!) winona ryder. i am reluctant to properly review this movie, because most of america doesn't even have the option to see it yet (wide release december 22 aka my birthday). i just gave joel my initial morning-after reaction, so i'll share that with you.
me: well i saw black swan last night Joel: go onnnn me: im not going to spoil anything for you
it was incredible though Joel: yay! me: like.....i had my eyes covered for most of the first hour Joel: are you going to give it biscuits me: it was really hard to watch
and i needed 11 cigarettes when it was over Joel: i cant wait to see it me: which is the exact reaction i had to requiem Joel: natalie! me: except that i hated that movie
this one, i loved Joel: and im so excited about mila kunis being employed again me: but i dont know if i will ever want to watch it again
it was so intense
it might be the most intense movie i've ever seen
mila is the bomb Joel: oooOOOOOooo
what about the STRANgers me: its 10 times more intense than the strangers Joel: jeebus me: and you now how intense i think that movie is
the first hour i was like 'why do people like this?'
and then by the time it was over
i wanted to give it a standing ovation
maybe my review should just be this gchat Joel: that is quite a reaction me: ps
natalie has that oscar locked up
...anyway, 11 biscuits!!!
joel can do the part 2 review when he gets his eyes on this movie.
side note: i wanted to know where a certain scene was filmed, so i googled "black swan party scene", and ended up here. ctM!
this trailer is pretty unremarkable, but i thought it was interesting within the context of this article i read in nymag last week. apparently disgraced memoirist james frey has founded this "fiction factory" with naive and impressionable young writers to churn out young adult fiction to sell like hotcakes and make oodles of money. also, LOOK its quinn from glee!
Chloƫ has partnered with the Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation to offer a capsule of T-shirts printed with her favorite photographs and collages by the late artist. Mapplethorpe began experimenting with Polaroid photography in 1970 before exploding on the scene with revolutionary images documenting pornographic film stars and members of the gritty S&M underground. In a homage to his career and to the ongoing fight against HIV/AIDS, Chloƫ has replicated her favorite images onto these way cool tees, and a portion of the proceeds benefits the Foundation. Go ahead and take your pick(s)!
read this profile of dakota's sister elle in the nytimes. it is really charming. some excerpts:
Coppola recalls that after “Somewhere” wrapped, she got a handwritten thank-you note from Elle, along with a framed drawing Elle did of a ballerina.
Dorff describes her as “a girlie girl” and recalls how she kept pestering him to tell her what he had bought her as a “wrap present” at the end of the “Somewhere” shoot. It was a gold bracelet festooned with pearls. “She opened it,” he told me, “and she started crying. She said, ‘Are these real?’ I said: ‘Yeah! You’re my leading lady. I couldn’t have done it without you.’ ”
“Everyone says Dakota’s Meryl,” Elle would say, “and I’m Marilyn.”
