GQ caity weaver is just as entertaining as gawker caity weaver

here's a piece on star wars, from the perspective of someone who has never watched a star wars movie, which is relatable for me as i never really have.

and here's an interview with lucky blue smith, which is helpful for me as i keep seeing him on @papermag's instagram but have no idea whom he is.

BREAKING NEWS

Whoopi gave halfhearted support for a Sister Act 3/Sister Act revamp, which I think is a really good reboot to do. Any suggestions for a new Sister Mary Patrick or Sister Mary Robert? Kathy Najimy could be the deaf Alma piano player. JK SHE HAS TO STILL BE A SINGING NUN

By taking advantage of a powerful rip current in French Polynesia's famed Tiputa Pass, world-class freediver Guillaume Néry gets pushed around the barren, rocky landscape as if he were a satellite orbiting an alien planet. Néry -- who is not using any breathing equipment -- is surrounded only by a dark, lonely abyss. (via)

“There are an unbelievable number of twists and turns in the story arc of Making a Murderer, it feels like it has to be fictional,” said Lisa Nishimura, Netflix VP of Original Documentary Programming. “Ricciardi and Demos have navigated very complex terrain and skillfully woven together an incredible series that leaves you feeling like you’re right in the middle of the action.” (via)

serial's back, motherfuckers.

Our first season was about a murder case few people had heard about. Season Two is a story a gazillion people have heard about: the story of Bowe Bergdahl, the U.S. soldier who walked off his post in Afghanistan in 2009 and was captured and held by the Taliban for nearly five years. It’s been in the newspapers and on TV; it’s been the subject of congressional investigations (in fact, this very day, the House Armed Services Committee is releasing a report on the Bergdahl trade)—and it’s an active case in military court.

The Resolute desk is a large, nineteenth-century partners' desk often chosen by presidents of the United States for use in the White House Oval Office as the Oval Office desk. It was a gift from Queen Victoria to President Rutherford B. Hayes in 1880 and was built from the timbers of the British Arctic Exploration ship Resolute. Franklin Roosevelt requested the addition of a door with the presidential seal to conceal his leg braces.[1] Many presidents since Hayes have used the desk at various locations in the White House, but it was Jackie Kennedy who first brought the desk into the Oval Office in 1961 for President John F. Kennedy. It was removed from the White House only once, after the assassination of President Kennedy in 1963, when President Johnson allowed the desk to go on a traveling exhibition with the Kennedy Presidential Library. After this it was on display in the Smithsonian Institution. President Jimmy Carter brought the desk back to the Oval Office, where Presidents Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush used it. It is currently in use by President Barack Obama. (via)
