chilean miners rescue
they are about to be rescued any second now... but have you seen the one man elevator they are putting down there to pull them out one by one? i have so many questions. they say it takes like 20 minutes to pull somebody out. how do they pick who goes last? what if you freak out 7 minutes in? that bottom escape hatch doesnt look too promising either.
UPDATE: i just read the article where i got this image. it actually answered a lot of my questions. thank you internet!

yesterday in presidential news
barack obama was at a political rally in philadephia. two things: 1, somebody threw a book at the president that narrowly missed him, 2, somebody took all of their clothing off. weird day to be president i imagine. via.

hahaha, look at this ridiculous trailer
is this for cereal? run away train? new train engineer learning the ropes from denzel washington? a missle the size of the chrysler building filled to the brim with toxic chemicals? a trainload of kids in the way?
how many stupid movie tropes can we cram into this trailer? ill go see it if you want to though.

some idiot doctor in the UK thinks this ultrasound image of a baby smiling is more than a fluke and will be used to erode abortion rights. idiot. some people (gawker) have noticed a resemblance between the ultrasound image, and the many LOL cat images permeating the internetz. [via]

REMINDER: its this thursday! sign up or show up or both!
just wanted to remind you all about a little event coming up called light the night. i know what you're thinking, but you're wrong. this one is really fun, because you get to walk over the brooklyn bridge with flashlight balloons! and it ends in world-famous brooklyn heights, which is where i live. and did i mention tina fey will be hosting the event? tina FEY!
as many of you know, our beloved 2Pz correspondent, bun-bun, was diagnosed with leukemia back in 2007. these days, thanks to the wonderful care he's received as a result of the research funded by events like this one, he's feeling healthy and doing just great.
this year's new york event takes place on the evening of thursday, october 14th. i encourage all of our readers in the nyc area to join us. i'm not saying it's mandatory, but only because i shouldn't have to. visit rob's team page, and just sign up! then you'll be ripe to receive a few obnoxious emails, within which the tiny amount of information you actually need will be buried.
what's that? you don't live in new york? well, that's just ridiculous. but hopefully, you live in knoxville. this way, you can walk with rob's other team, led by his mom, ellen. she's a real delight, so don't be shy about joining her.
and, obvi, if you can't be there for the walk, go to rob's page anyway, and make it rain a few dollhairs all over kancer's face.
no matter how you choose to proceed, bear in mind that i'll be watching you, and so will tina fey. if you have any questions, ask rob, not me. can't wait to see you all there! k bye!

not surprising.
did you guys hear what teabagging new york gubernatorial candidate carl paladino said yesterday, while speaking to a group of orthodox jews in williamsburg, of all places?
"There is nothing to be proud of in being a dysfunctional homosexual. That's not how god created us, and that's not the example that we should be showing our children. Children would be much better off and much more successful getting married and raising a family than being gay. And I don't want them brainwashed into thinking homosexuality is an equally valid and successful option - it isn't." (via)brainwashed! well, he's just looking out for the success of your children. so. oh, and one more thing:
Paladino also told the largely Hasidic Jewish audience that he supports a program to provide tax breaks to people whose children attend private or religious schools. Paladino said he believes there's a way to structure the program so it doesn't violate the separation of church and state and can withstand legal challenges. (via)what a pander bear!
