moonstruck then + now

as you may know, the classic new york movie moonstruck, starring cher and nicolas cage, was filmed in large part in brooklyn heights. i used to live across the street from the moonstruck house (at cranberry + willow).

someone made this great youtube showing various filming locations, and what they look like now. wonderful!

g.animalz + thomas wilhelm, y'all wanna watch it this weekend?

i swear. to god. there is not one sane person in south carolina

on december 8th, henry e. brown, jr. a house member from south carolina introduced H.res.951, with 17 co-sponsors :
Resolved, That the House of Representatives—
(1) recognizes the importance of the symbols and traditions of Christmas;
(2) strongly disapproves of attempts to ban references to Christmas; and
(3) expresses support for the use of these symbols and traditions by those who celebrate Christmas.
representative brown issues a press release explaining his decision to introduce the bill:
"i am troubled by the growing sentiment that the phrase 'merry christmas' is not appropriate and i am worried that attempts to celebrate a 'politically correct' holiday season may cause the loss of some of the traditions sacred to this widely celebrated holiday.

i recognize that there are many religions that celebrate a variety of holidays this month and in accordance with the first amendment, i believe it is important to preserve the right for everyone to worship as they believe....

we must not forget that the true meaning of christmas is to celebrate of the birth of christ and i will continue to work to protect the sanctity of this great holiday."

schickas!

happy hannukah!

hannukah starts tonight, jicydak. here's an interesting story about a current exhibit at new york's jewish museum, which investigates the role of ritual in modern timez, with a heavy focus on contemporary art + design. (via)

lane's innocent!

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Tennessee football coach Lane Kiffin says he was not "aware" of any recruiting violations committed by himself, his assistants or support staff regarding the university's student ambassador program.
He said during a news conference Thursday he and his staff take the rules of the NCAA and SEC "extremely serious." He says he doesn't know of any wrongdoing by any of his staff or "of the kids that are being questioned in this."

Tennessee confirmed Wednesday the NCAA is looking into the activities of members of the university's Orange Pride group. (via)

AND he's still talkin' shit:

Kiffin told reporters that he expects this kind of scrutiny because the Vols are recruiting so well.

"I think that any time you're operating at the level we're operating at in recruiting, people are going to come after us," Kiffin said. "So people are going to question what we're doing." (via)

loves it.
