06 April 2012

time for an astronomy lesson.

this easter weekend brings us one of zombie jesus's many gifts for which we are perpetually indebted until we repay Him with the forgiveness of a thousand slaughtered bunnies. i think that's how the bible goes. anyway, listen up!
Traditionally, the April full moon is known as "the Pink Moon," supposedly as a tribute to the grass pink or wild ground phlox, considered one of the earliest widespread flowers of the spring. Other monikers include the Full Sprouting Grass Moon, the Egg Moon and, among coastal Native American tribes, the Full Fish Moon, for when the shad came upstream to spawn.
The first full moon of spring is usually designated as the Paschal Full Moon or the Paschal Term. Traditionally, Easter is observed on the Sunday after the Paschal Full Moon. If the Paschal Moon occurs on a Sunday, Easter is the following Sunday.
Following these rules, we find that the date of Easter can fall as early as March 22 and as late as April 25. Pope Gregory XIII decreed this in 1582 as part of the Gregorian calendar. So according to the current ecclesiastical rules, Easter Sunday in 2012 is to be celebrated April 8. (via)
everyone keep your peepers open for the full sprouting grass moon tonight! also, watch where you step because i heard thomas wilhelm's shad came upstream to spawn, iykwim.

i wish someone would roll tim tebow's corpse into a cave and throw away the key.

Tim Tebow will deliver the Easter sermon on Sunday at the Celebration Church in Georgetown, Texas, and the expected turnout is one more indication of Tebow’s enormous popularity.
The church told local TV station KVUE that it’s erecting bleachers on its 60-acre outdoor space for what it expects to be a crowd of as many as 30,000 people.
“Obviously it’s our Super Bowl,” said Joe Champion, pastor at the Celebration Church. “Easter is the resurrection of Christ, which we celebrate in our faith. We feel like it’s going to be a testimony to the community. We want it to be a family event.” (via)
that's nasty.

gchatz w/ john

we were just discussing this insane fighter-jet-crashed-into-an-apartment-building story, and he painted the most delightful little easter picture...

John: can you imagine
i think i'll take good friday off and stay at HOME
making yourself some fishsticks
waiting for easter
me: omg fishsticks
John: well, no meat on friday!
me: ctm
John: i imagine someone in mid bite when a jet peels off their roof

good pizza friday: pizza prince

a new pizza place opened on nassau in beautiful greenpoint, brooklyn.
i had the chicken and broccoli even though thomas wilhelm told me that i'd die if i ate it.
i should have taken his advice. it would rate it 7 biscuits tops.

It's been a bad few weeks for food.  Get read to not enjoy anything anymore.

A new study indicates that sugar, in the quantities most Americans consume it, may be as toxic as alcohol and cigarettes.  A scientist at UC Davis has shown that excessive consumption of sugar and high fructose corn syrup overwhelm the liver, which then converts the extra fructose into fat that can clog arteries as LDL cholesterol plaque.  Whats even more alarming is that a professor at Harvard believes that some forms of cancer have "evolved" to grow by feeding off of the excess sugar in our systems that would normally be absorbed by fats and muscle.   The problem with all of this is that sugar has been added to pretty much everything we eat including many thing we don't usually consider unhealthy sources of sugar, such as breads, yogurt, fruit juices and peanut butter.  So basically, that tumor inside of you is just going to continue to grow until consumes you.

Now that sugar is essentially the same as rat poison, you might be thinking you'll continue finding joy in your life through food by eating delicious fatty red meat (after all, it's that sugar giving you heart disease).  Well, think again; basically, your life gets shorter every time you consume red meat.  It's also going to give you heart disease and cancer.

But that's okay, because you can always chow down at chik-fil-a even if you're gay, right?  Ehhhhhh, I wouldn't if I were you.  The US Agricultural Department is planning to expand a pilot program that allows poultry processors to manage their own inspections.  But whistle blowers are warning that the plan has some major and seemingly obvious problems.  For instance, USDA documents released under the freedom of information act show that processing facilities in the pilot program were missing "defective" birds at high rates.  In this case, defective means diseased or covered in feces.

Oh, and let's not forget about pink slime.

your fortnightly (ghost) boat!

oh haiye y'all! here i am. check out this ghost ship!!
With the threat to Alaska's marine life looming, United States Coast Guard brought an end to the eerie story of Japan's drifting ghost ship by unleashing cannon fire and sinking the vessel in what experts deemed the most environmentally-safe location on Thursday. The Ryou-Un Maru, which news outlets have dubbed the 'Ghost Ship', was dislodged and set adrift off the shores of Hokkaido during last year's tsunami and according to CNN (video below), "drifted undetected until late last month when a Canadian coastal air patrol spotted it several hundred miles off the Queen Charlotte Islands, and archipelago on the north coast of British Columbia."
