nErD aLeRt!

yesterday there was a public hearing for the City Planning Commission regarding the fate of the Hines developed tower next door to the MoMA at 53 West 53rd street. Architect Jean Nouvel was on hand (a special note informed the reader that he was dressed in all black) to defend his project, one that he described as "career defining for any architect." In my opinion, this seems like a well concieved and beautiful tower, that would become one of the tallest in the city. The Planning Commission is likely to agree, according to the report, they are most concerned that this project will go the way of Atlantic Yards, and the beautiful project as approved will transform into an ugly economical mess.

interestingly, there was another architect invited who presented an alternative, more "community friendly" project that he devised at his own cost. It seems he hopes to provide an alternative to the beautiful architecture that he trashed with the forseen prize of some developer somewhere else deciding that his speculative project deserves to be built. but its U.G.L.Y.

three new bears

UPDATE: that picture below is a fake off the internet, but here is a real life picture of the new teddy bears coming to memphis. arent they just too cute for words. and look! they like grapes just like me. also, updated info in a new article

i sure hope that the memphis zoo keeps that stabby elephant mom away from the three adorable new grizzly puppies that are on the way. they are going to put them in a brand new animal cage they are building just for bears called Teton Trek. sounds like a shitty korean sport utility crossover.

the bears are orphans because their mom hit some dumb ass from wyoming man in the face with her paw so he shot her. the nerve of people from wyoming. square ass state.

movie trailers

i just popped in the dark knight dvd to play for me while i twitter about on the internet and the watchmen trailer came on. I remember the first time I saw it (opening night of the dark knight), and am still transfixed. Something about the combination of THE SONG, with the familiar yet strange comic book imagery and costumes.

I was thinking about how it may be the best trailer I have ever seen, and I remembered an article about the 50 greatest trailers of all time that I intended to share with you, but never got around to. Turns out IFC thinks there are 45 greater trailers. Do you have a favorite? I totally agree about number three. I remember exactly where I was the first time I saw that one as well.

there is a Nordstrom Rack moving into the old Virgin Megastore spot in Union Square. I've always found it strange that there wasnt a Nordstrom here, and this is obviously a step in the right direction. The Rack designation means that prices are 50%-60% off, and selection will be limited. oh well.
