what did you do this weekend, memphis edition

well. what a fun memphis weekend. friday night i went to paula raifords for some late night dancing. i danced so hard my shorts ripped apart. joel a long (divorced) had entered a drawing and won a free VIP party for 20 guests, and we had exclusive access to the upstairs party room.

saturday started at trashley's downtown condo. she had set up a beer die table in her living room. if you don't know what beer die is, its too hard to explain. lets just say its a gentleman's game.

morganthony's engagement party was just down the block from trash's in a beautiful home on the south bluffs overlooking the mississippi river. we watched the sunset from the comfort of the shaded and misted patio.

after the party, we stepped outside and caught a downtown trolley that dropped us off at beale street. total cost, $1 per person. i felt transported back to the olden days.

beale street was poppin off saturday night. the fuzz was there checking all the ladies bags and wanding every guy. its now legal to carry firearms in tennessee, but not on beale street. i think thats for the best. there was a near-riot later that night, but we missed it.

the party people at stopped in at silky o'sullivans and sat near the band so we could hop up and groove as necessary. i made one appearance on the dance floor during a showstopping tina turner medley that included proud mary, nutbush city limits, and some great dancing by yours truely.

we cabbed it from silky's through the legit north memphis hood and finally ended the night at wild bills, a ghetto juke joint. it was my first time there, but i have decided that i want to go back late night every time i visit memphis from now on. the location is totally sketchy, the crowd is a great mix of all ages races and types, the music hot, the food is fried, and the beer comes in one size: 40 oz.

overall, 11 biscuits
