CHERRY PICKIN' POLL

i'm going to try to frame this as objectively as possible:

a person enters a grocery store, heads to the produce section, and decides (s)he would like some cherries and/or grapes. the cherries/grapes are set out on a table, grouped into unsealed plastic bags (you know the kind, open w/ top handles and drainage holes all over). so (s)he takes a produce bag off the roll nearby, and takes the preferred amount grapes/cherries from several batches, based on his/her preferred quality, and proceeds to the register to pay by weight.

in your opinion....IZ THAT OKAY?!

tell us in the comments.

Nonono. You're cheating any future shoppers out of cherries/grapes.

UPDATE:

i would pick out the best grape/ cherry bag for myself, but i wouldn't move fruit between bags. if i wanted more grapes/ cherries than what was in the bag i would consider buying more than one bag, if i wanted less i would be shit out of luck.

ummmmmmmmmmmmm. is that even allowed? you get whats in the bag. it's not a banana bunch! treat it just like you treat the bags of apples. ONE ITEM!

1. It's not cheating anyone out of anything. The bags are weighed for pricing, so you're only paying for what you take to the register. And if you're too stupid to look in the bag before you buy, tough titties. Buyer beware.

2. Again, it's priced by weight. You can take produce out of the OPEN plastic bags and put it in one of the bags off the rolls (THAT THE STORE PROVIDES FOR YOU). There's no luck involved.

3. OH IT IS ALLOWED, and it's NOT one item. They are loose in bags and sold by the pound. NO ONE is going to make me buy the whole bag or the gross ones in the bag.

You know they weren't always sold this way. In the past (and still in some places, everyone's favorite grocery store Stew Leonard's for example) you pick through an open bin and fill a produce bag with what you want. I'm not getting conned just because some jerk-off grocery store started putting them in open plastic bags. A store near my apartment started putting bananas in bags, pricing them by the pound, and telling you to buy the whole bunch. Nice try assholes. I'm not falling for it. Let's just put all produce in pre-portioned bags! If you want me to buy the whole bag, seal it up, and put a price on it. This is stupid. You're all just a bunch of sheep being lead to the supermarket slaughter!

I really don't see how this is an issue.

If you don't want a full bag why would do you need to buy the whole thin? Also if you want extra do you really need to buy two bags?

Thanks to the people who don't want full bag, the people who do that want larger bag get there way.

Isn't it a win-win for everyone?

Also - to Joels point I also break banana bunches in half. (only if they are out of the bag) - don't hate! Why would I waste the food.

supermarket slaughter sounds like a good idea for a reality television show

"you know you're wrong for putting your hand in all those bags." -what a stranger said to john at citarella yesterday

He said something more along the lines of "that ain't (isn't) right." I told him to GET. FUCKED.

they are pre-packaged for a reason...so people (thomas wilhelm) don't put their hands all over all the produce. STICK TO YOUR OWN BAG!!

also, you're all only discussing the quantity-based part of the problem. i remain most disturbed that john is taking all the best cherries out of the cherry bags and putting them in a produce bag, which, granted, is provided but...

...you know you're wrong for using those bags for something that already comes in a different bag.

Supermarket Slaughter also sounds like a great band name. Or cornhole team name?

An episode of Extreme Hoarders had a guy who picked off all the grape stems in the supermarket because it was by weight and that was not something he was gonna pay for. Please tell me all the cherry stems were disposed of as well.

i wouldn't want other people fingering my food.

Golden rule:
do to others food as you would want others to do to your food
