"oh really"

new hobby alert!

Anthropomorphic Mouse, recently held above an American cabaret in what used to be the Bank of New York in London, is not a taxidermy class in the strictest sense: It is more like a cross between taxidermy and arts and crafts for beginners, using mice. The aim is to create scenes that look as if they are out of Beatrix Potter’s “Peter Rabbit” books, in which small animals wear clothes and hats and enjoy picnics, tea parties and lives of their own. speaking of apocalypses for buildings

The towers are oddly beloved by many people, especially architects, but the demolition serves as great theater. The three towers all collapse at once, and smoke rings bellow out of the top in the slow motion reel. While it's not the only time people have gathered to watch a demolition, the erasure of these cooling towers is particularly eerie, as they bring to mind apocalyptic images of nuclear meltdown. (via)
i recommend pushing play on "the voyager" and watching all the videos.

DIG. HIM. UP.

i am just thrilled by the story about some british scientists that found the remains of richard iii buried under a parking lot in england. he was known to have a physical deformity (shakespeare depicted him as a hunchback), and it looks like they were right. get a load of that skeleton!
The parking lot sat on the site of a small church in Leicester where Richard of Gloucester was buried in 1485. When the Church was demolished in the 16th century, the exact location was lost until August of last year, when excavators decided to dig up the lot; one of the few remaining open areas in the city. The bones were found almost immediately and caught the archeologists' eyes, thanks to a severe curvature of the spine. Richard was famously believed to have a physical deformity, a feature made legendary by William Shakespeare's play about him—which also painted Richard as a vile schemer, who murdered his brothers, seduced his enemy's widow, and even had two young children locked in the Tower of London (and later executed) in order to claim the throne. i'm also thrilled that this topic was covered by 2Pz favorite gawker-er, caity weaver.

Remember?

We've been watching An Idiot Abroad: The Bucket List on the Science channel. I think it may be my favorite show on television, in part because I'm an anglophile. On my way to work, this other British thing came across my earholes, Remember?
As long as we are remembering British rappers from the early 2000's, Remember Dizee Rascal?

this plucky little british lass was playing dead on her street when google street view rolled by taking pictures.

everyone was aghast. except her mom who said:
"I understand how some people might have thought the picture looked like a dead body—I just wish she was that quiet all the time."

from gawker, suggested by kylie in transit.
