10 years ago today, i was sitting in presidential courtyard outside my freshman dorm, making all kinds of new friends (including rachel cheek), when i heard aaliyah died. no celebrity death has ever saddened me like hers.

two weeks later september 11th happened, and i wondered: which is worse? which. is. worse.
