janet echelman's floating net sculptures

Artist Janet Echelman stumbled upon the idea of using nets in her art exhibits when her paint supplies did not arrive when she was based in India, planning an art exhibition. While she was walking through the village Echelman was struck by the quality and variety of nets used by the local fisherman and decided to try and use those in her artwork.
Echelman is currently embarking on her largest piece ever, a 700-foot-long sculpture that will be suspended over Vancouver next month in conjunction with the 30th anniversary of the TED Conference. In collaboration with the Burrard Arts Foundation, she’s currently seeking funding via Kickstarter to make it happen. (via)

shark week, day 3 - twosie tuesday

i am in tennessee this week. i had a great time on the boat with some architecture classmates this weekend. we all made it through the weekend with limbs intact. we only saw like 80 sharks. this morning i walked down to the cove and saw a whole pack of sharks, so i called my dad to come down. he grabbed his fishing pole, and on his first cast he caught two! that was a first for us. those fish are like 2pznappod!

other new york sports news

have you all heard the one about the rich rich rich self made russian billionaire who bought up the new jersey nets and is going to move them to that new arena in brooklyn once brett ratner can get it built? well, when mikhail prokhorov came to brooklyn on his press tour last week, he granted two one on one interviews. the first was with a veteran new york sports reporter, the second was with a brooklyn blogger who had just graduated from J School at Columbia. (hey macbreath do you know this guy?)

mr prokhorov, next time you come to brooklyn and want to grant an exlusive interview to a local sports enthusiast, i know just the one.
