your fortnightly boat.

this is the norwegian spy vessel, marjata (III)! her wedge shape was a revolutionary maritime advancement back in 1992, designed to stalk the russian military in the roughest of northern seas. needless to say, the russians can't stand her, and often try to run her off. just like whale wars but for people. read this, it's chock-full of drama, as well as  a sneak peek at the marjata IV!

marjata, i can see your halo lifeboat.

good news

japan has to stop murdering whales.

TOKYO — The decision to ban Japan’s annual whaling drive off Antarctica, handed down by the United Nations’ highest court on Monday, was a hard-won victory for conservationists who long argued that Tokyo’s whaling research was a cover for commercial whaling.
The ruling by the International Court of Justice in The Hague halts a Japanese program that has captured more than 10,000 minke and other whales in the Southern Ocean each year since 1988 in the name of biological research. (via)

paul watson is on the lam

“Captain Watson’s attorney reports he has left Germany,” said Susan Hartland, Administrative Director of Sea Shepherd. We have reason to believe from a reliable source that, once in Costa Rica, the Japanese Government may have sought extradition of Captain Watson to Japan to answer charges related to obstructing their illegal whaling activities in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary. We have no further information and are not in touch with him. We will do our best to provide more details as we learn more. We will post any new information as it arrives and we are able to confirm its validity." via

Paul Watson, the captain from Whale Wars was arrested and escaped from Germany and now no one knows where he is and the Japanese whale industry is probably looking for him so they can turn him into an oil lamp or something.
