look out grizzbears

the memphis grizzlies are staying in a haunted hotel!  here's what happened.
"The legend holds that Effie was a housekeeper during the early years of the Skirvin, a luxury downtown hotel, before its 10 brick floors were expanded to 14 in 1930. W. B. Skirvin, the hotel’s widowed owner, supposedly had an affair with Effie and, when she became pregnant, ordered her to stay locked inside a room on an upper floor, even after she had the baby. At some point, the story goes, Effie went crazy, grabbed the baby and jumped, killing herself and the child."

now she scares people. even big mean basketball players. as you all know, i am by far the bravest of the bunch, so i would have NO TROUBLE sleeping tight in a hotel that has been filled with ghosts for 100 years. someone better tuck in marc and tony, though.

the conjuring (clap clap!)

my neighbor pete told me that this movie was so scary it got an R rating with no sex, nudity, or gore. and when the producers asked what they could take out to get it down to PG-13 they were told "nothing." (because every part of it is so terrifying.)

who's coming with me?

CLAP CLAP.

HFS.

An ancient statue made as an offering to Osiris, the Egyptian god of death, that is currently housed at the Manchester Museum in England has suddenly started spinning inside its closed display case — and no one seems to know why.
A time-lapse video released by the museum shows the 4000-year-old relic of Neb-Senu slowly turning around inside its case without any apparent assistance from the outside world.
Found in a mummy's tomb some 80 years ago, the statue has been kept encased at the museum ever since.
Its current caretaker, Campbell Price, was the first one to notice the strange phenomenon, and says he first realized something was off when he found the statue askew, reset it, and then found it askew again the following day.
"In Ancient Egypt they believed that if the mummy is destroyed then the statuette can act as an alternative vessel for the spirit," Price, and Egyptologist by trade, told the Manchester Evening News. "Maybe that is what is causing the movement." (via)

your fortnightly (ghost) boat!

oh haiye y'all! here i am. check out this ghost ship!!
With the threat to Alaska's marine life looming, United States Coast Guard brought an end to the eerie story of Japan's drifting ghost ship by unleashing cannon fire and sinking the vessel in what experts deemed the most environmentally-safe location on Thursday. The Ryou-Un Maru, which news outlets have dubbed the 'Ghost Ship', was dislodged and set adrift off the shores of Hokkaido during last year's tsunami and according to CNN (video below), "drifted undetected until late last month when a Canadian coastal air patrol spotted it several hundred miles off the Queen Charlotte Islands, and archipelago on the north coast of British Columbia." New Yorkers, next time you moan about how long your commute is (i.e., when your leave work today), don't make your complaints aimlessly. Aim them straight at the subway lines that could've taken you home faster if only they'd been built! To do so, Balance Media and WNYC's John Keefe offers this handy map of the 11 proposed-but-never-fully-built subway lines in New York overlaying the city's subway system as it actually exists today. The subways-in-the-sky include a bunch of outer-borough amenities, such as the two additional trains connecting Queens and Brooklyn and another connecting (gasp) Staten Island to the rest of the city. And lower Manhattan certainly gets some love as well, with three more lines of its own going to Brooklyn, including the fabled 2nd Avenue line the MTA has actually started building in the Upper East Side (no jinx). The map's fancy and interactive, with text bubbles explaining each nonexistent line, so you ought to head over to WNYC's website to play with it yourself. (via)
yes i will!! going right now!

there's also an awesome story (with slideshow) about all the ghost stations!

This morning i heard a loud clatter in the kitchen around 5:45 a.m. When I went out to take a shower at 6:30, this is what i saw.

The window is closed. Everyone else was asleep.

My head was resting 4 feet away (through a wall).

I am freaking out you guys. It was either a mouse or a ghost but some one wants me dead.

have you been watching?

[American Horror Story] creator Ryan Murphy previews next week's episode, "Piggy, Piggy":
"Piggy Piggy" is a really fun one for me, it's also a horrifying one because one of the things the show deals with is the "American horrors" that we deal with in our culture. Certainly, kids and violence is one of them. So the opening is beyond tense and very upsetting where we see the true story of Tate. Then, Eric Stonestreet comes on as a patient who is paralyzed by urban myths and legends like Bloody Mary. It's a pivotal one in the run of the show. It's sort of half-way there and we deal with all these questions about Tate that we have been dealing with so I think it's very momentous. What does he know? What doesn't he know? Why he did what he did? What does Violet find out about what he did? It's all that in there.
He also discusses Mena Suvari's casting as a character called the Black Dahlia, who is indeed meant to be the famous murder victim from the 1940s. He confirms the character will be seen in flashbacks with Dr. Montgomery, and he adds:
The interesting thing about that is there were over 60 people to step forward to say, "I was the killer of the Black Dahlia" so we wanna tell people what really happened to the Black Dahlia. You know it had to do with the f-ed up house! (via)
