pop ladies
you've probably listened to the ri ri album by now and learned that its just ok. i was reading this article discussing the transitions that several female pop artists have undertaken as of late, and they mentioned an interview with sia (who also had an album come out today). it's a really interesting look into how she crafts songs for artists. READ IT.

different in a good way.
The Senate is normally a divisive place, full of shouting matches, endless filibusters, and the occasional violent caning. But yesterday, in the aftermath of the D.C. blizzard, everyone who showed up in the chamber had at least one thing in common—they were all women.
Senator Lisa Murkowski, a Republican from Alaska, pointed this out in her closing statement. "As we convene this morning," she said, "you look around the chamber, and the presiding officer [Senator Susan Collins, R-ME] is female. All of our parliamentarians are female. Our floor managers are female. All of our pages are female."
"This was not orchestrated in any way shape or form," she added. "We came in this morning and looked around and thought 'something is different this morning'—different in a good way, I might add." (via)

invisible cities, illustrated.
Lima-based architect Karina Puente has a personal project: to illustrate each and every "invisible" city from Italo Calvino's 1972 novel. The book, which imagines imaginary conversations between the (real-life) Venetian explorer Marco Polo and the aged Mongol ruler Kublai Khan has been instrumental in framing approaches to urban discourse and the form of the city.
