This story has been brewing for a while, I first posted about kings of leon and glee last year. things have gotten substantially more heated, and now it's time to address the situation again. via.
Yesterday, Glee creator Ryan Murphy said, "Fuck you, Kings of Leon" in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, slagging the band for not giving the show permission to use their songs. While singer Caleb Followill was quoted trying to ratchet down the tension with Murphy ("This was never meant as a slap in the face to Glee or to music education or to fans of the show"), drummer Nathan Followill is having none of this measured-response business. Nathan just tweeted, "Dear Ryan Murphy, let it go. See a therapist, get a manicure, buy a new bra. Zip your lip and focus on educating 7yr olds how to say fuck."
Murphy said: "Just read Nathan Followill's Tweet…in which he implied I should ‘get a manicure and buy a bra.’ Wow. That's a homophobe badly in need of some education. I'm all for manicures, don't wear a bra. Would guess most gay dudes don't. But it's telling that Nathan can reduce a group of people to a mean-spirited cliché, in a time where young gay men are killing themselves all over the country because of hatred like this.
That said, I would love to sit down with Nathan or any member of Kings and Leon, and tell them how on Glee we actually love their music, and support their artistry…but cannot condone or even laugh at their clear disdain of gay people."
Followill then tweeted in response, "I'm sorry 4 anyone that misconstrued my comments as homophobic or misogynistic. I'm so not that kind of person. I really do apologize."
Boys, boys, boys... you are really embarrassing yourselves. You guys need to work this one out without getting Perez Hilton involved.

glee
glee was on again last night! wahoooooo! it was an excellent episode, i've edited the above video clip to capture Sue's Corner for you.
in other glee news, madonna has agreed to allow her songs to be used in an upcoming all madonna episode. adam lambert is in talks to cameo, aaaand jonathan groff, lea michele's costar from their hit brodway musical Spring Awakening (which i saw with starla and delta!) is signed on to appear in a story arc as the lead male singer in rival glee club Vocal Adrenaline. love interest! one more tidbit, Joss Whedon, producer of cult classic tv like buffy the vampire slayer, dollhouse, and firefly is set to direct an episode.
keep watching. its only getting better.

GLEE, (spoiler alert)

in addition to celebrating the Golden Globe win for Best TV Show - Musical or Comedy, the newest edition of Entertainment Weekly gives some scoops about what we can expect for the remainder of season 1 and upcoming season 2.
1) Neil Patrick Harris is likey to join the cast for a singalong in an upcoming Joss Whedon directed episode. TV's favorite dancing and singing queer is likely to have a part written special for him.
2) in other gay news, Kurt gets a boyfriend! In a break from previous gay high school tv relationships, the writers plan to turn them into popular power gays at the school.
3) Sue Sylvester is going to be singing Vogue in an upcoming all-Madonna extravaganza episode
4) Jennifer Lopez is reportedly lobbying to get written into an episode (read: desperate for some attention). in this case, glee creator ryan murphy responds, "i dont want to stunt cast too much." (except for maybe bruce springsteen, olivia newton john, eve, idina menzel, nph, etc.)
5) Rachel Berry gets her very own Eve Harrington. (i didnt know who eve harrington was, but its a reference to All About Eve and that archetypal role of the talented young and adoring understudy who begins to upstage the established diva).

did you know?

santana from glee (naya rivera) has a younger brother named mychal rivera and he is a university of tennessee volunteer football player. she has been tweeting about the games, but i failed to notice that. my mom is the one that told me. go vols! go santana! go glee!
VOL news:
Sophomore tight end Mychal Rivera has been a quiet but steady performer since arriving in Knoxville this summer. The transfer from California's College of the Canyons now finds himself solidly in the mix for playing time behind seniorLuke Stocker. "He'll play and we'll throw him some balls," Dooley said of the 6-4, 240-pounder. "He's really doing well. That was a good pickup for us." Rivera caught 35 passes last season for 330 yards and three touchdowns. The Valencia, Calif., product originally signed with Oregon out of high school before transferring to the junior college route for 2009. He has three seasons of eligibility remaining."That was a big pickup for us, it really was," Dooley said. "I feel like we've got two tight ends now."

kings of leon 2 kewl 4 glee

the rolling stones, tina turner, madonna, and kiss are all cool with glee licensing their songs for use in their hit show, but no such luck from the kings of leon. despite their three tracks that have appeared on gossip girl one of the followills said:
“We could have sold out so much more. We turn stuff down constantly,” frontman Caleb Followill added. “We had some people call us up wanting to know if we’d allow ‘Use Somebody’ to appear in the trailer for their next movie, and we turned them down. Next day, they called back and tried to put us through to the star of the movie—I won’t name names, but he’s an incredibly famous actor—to let him try and convince us to agree to do it.
“I was like, ‘Man, don’t even waste your energy’.”
cool dude.

WHAM!
let me tell you a story about this song. 1) it was perfect on glee last night. 2) when i was in high school, we had a random family tradition of going out to eat at benihana on christmas eve before the candlelight church service. hibachi steak and shrimp makes the jesus go down easy. anywayz, for 3 or 4 years in a row, we would be waiting in the benihana karaoke bar for our table to be available, and this song would be on repeat. we always had a good laugh, like "last christmas i was at benihana listening to this same damn karaoke song." i had no idea george micheal had anything to do with it, but now that i know i love it even more. so thats how come benihana and wham became a part of my christmas story.
