Led by Jennifer Hudson, who opened with a few words about her good friend, the cast — which includes the outstanding Cynthia Erivo and Orange Is the New Black's Danielle Brooks — channeled Prince for an absolutely spellbinding cover of "Purple Rain." Listen, there are covers, and then there's what Jennifer Hudson did last night — the very definition of catching the spirit. (via)i see you, tastee.

oh that's interesting.
The Resolute desk is a large, nineteenth-century partners' desk often chosen by presidents of the United States for use in the White House Oval Office as the Oval Office desk. It was a gift from Queen Victoria to President Rutherford B. Hayes in 1880 and was built from the timbers of the British Arctic Exploration ship Resolute. Franklin Roosevelt requested the addition of a door with the presidential seal to conceal his leg braces.[1] Many presidents since Hayes have used the desk at various locations in the White House, but it was Jackie Kennedy who first brought the desk into the Oval Office in 1961 for President John F. Kennedy. It was removed from the White House only once, after the assassination of President Kennedy in 1963, when President Johnson allowed the desk to go on a traveling exhibition with the Kennedy Presidential Library. After this it was on display in the Smithsonian Institution. President Jimmy Carter brought the desk back to the Oval Office, where Presidents Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush used it. It is currently in use by President Barack Obama. (via)

Over 100 Broadway stars, directors, producers, musicians, choreographers, designers and technicians from some of the most prominent productions gathered in front of the police station in Times Square on Tuesday. They wanted to send a message about police violence and the killing of Eric Garner. #itstopstoday #blukluxklan (via)

the voice report
omg you guys last night was sooooooo good. did you know that of the top 8, there is only one lady left? that lady is danica, and she is amazing. she did just fine with pharell's choice of legendary 80s female pop-duo heart's (!) "these dreams", but it was just nothing compared to these three performances:
adam asked his boyfriend chris to sing "sexual healing" just for him.
i continue to love taylor john's re-arrangements, and this version of "royals" was just wonderful.
and good luck not crying during matt's "the blower's daughter"
they are cutting three tonight, and my predictions are: ryan / craig wayne boyd / damien
gawker recap here (she nails it this week, but doesn't she always?)

RIP joan rivers
you are already missed.
She lived in a triplex penthouse just off Fifth Avenue overlooking Central Park that featured a ballroom with gilded columns and 23-foot-high ceilings. It was on the market for $29.5 million in 2011, when she told The New York Times: “Qaddafi wanted to rent it for that whole U.N. thing. People said it’s blood money. I said, ‘Oh, I can easily wash blood off dollar bills.’ But they didn’t like it. It was too close to a synagogue.” (via)

UPDATE: PAT GETS THE PRESIDENTIAL MEDAL OF FREEDOM
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, President Barack Obama announced Patricia “Pat” Summitt, former head coach and current head coach emeritus of the University of Tennessee’s women’s basketball team, as a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom. The Medal of Freedom is the Nation’s highest civilian honor, presented to individuals who have made especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.
President Obama said, “Coach Summitt is an inspiration – both as the all-time winningest NCAA coach, and as someone who is willing to speak so openly and courageously about her battle with Alzheimer’s. Pat’s gift has always been her ability to push those around her to new heights, and over the last 38 years, her unique approach has resulted in both unparalleled success on the court and unrivaled loyalty from those who know her and those whose lives she has touched. Pat’s coaching career may be over, but I’m confident that her work is far from finished. I look forward to awarding her this honor.”

Bailey got a special gift at school on her 6th birthday. Her father, Sgt. Adam Page, surprised while she was giving a presentation at school. Sgt. Page had been serving in Afghanistan and came home early. He is now stationed close to their home in Utah.
