07 February 2014

every season is football season.

our 2pz sports commentator bun-bun is about to get his ass laid. off. there has been a veritable FONT of great news coming out of knoxville this week, and you haven't heard a peep. let's get started.

this shouldnt surprise anyone, but at the end of national signing day, butch jones and his recruiting team put together the FIFTH-RANKED recruiting class in the nation. to answer your question: yes, that's better than georgia's.
Butch Jones came out swinging, landing a ridiculous 33 new players in his first full class as head coach of the Volunteers. It includes a massive upgrade at the skill positions, including borderline five-star running back Jalen Hurd, four-star back Derrell Scott, four-star receivers Josh Malone and Von Pearson, and four-star tight end Daniel Helm.
The Vols also got signatures from a U.S. Army All-American in safety Todd Kelly, a ready-to-play offensive tackle in JuCo transfer Dontavius Blair, and six four-star recruits for the defensive front seven. (via)
read how it all came together HERE. (thx dan!)

one should also note that a fifth-ranked class is only third-ranked in the SEC, and that 7 of the top 10 recruiting classes were from the SEC, and that all 14 SEC teams made it into the top 50.

one of the highlights of signing day was the berry twins. jicydak, the younger twin brothers of 2Pz all-time favorite vol eric berry verbally committed to tennessee when they were just 14 years old. playing together for their high school team, they won a (georgia) state championship last year.

read how cute and well-liked they are HERE.

here's a video of a 5-star recruit telling the story of how coach butch jones convinced him to keep his talents in tennessee.

and finally, here's a photo of one of our 2014 recruits, d'andre payne, literally jumping for joy as he enters neyland for the first time as a vol. *single tear*
d'andre, i notice you're wearing modesty harvesty's number, and i like your spirit so far.

oh and i nearly forgot:
The Nashville Sports Council and the University of Tennessee announced today that the Tennessee Volunteers will open their 2015 football season at LP Field in Nashville. The Volunteers will take on the UAB Blazers on Saturday, September 5, 2015. (via)

nErD aLeRt!

he did it! rob bundy single-handedly saved the folk art museum!

just kidding, he barely did anything. but hopefully diller scofidio + renfro can fiyux it.
The Museum of Modern Art has commissioned Diller Scofidio + Renfro (DS+R) to design its controversial expansion that will overtake the former American Folk Art Museum in New York. This news comes after an intense backlash from prominent architects, preservationists and critics worldwide pressured MoMA to reconsider its decision to raze the iconic, Tod Williams and Billie Tsien-design museum in order to make way for its new expansion.
In response, DS+R has requested that MoMA gives them the “time and latitude to carefully consider the entirety of the site, including the former American Folk Art Museum building, in devising an architectural solution to the inherent challenges of the project,” as stated by Glenn D. Lowry, MoMA’s director, in a memo sent on Thursday to his trustees and staff. He added, “We readily agreed to consider a range of options, and look forward to seeing their results.” (via)

a proper tennessee vols post.

(granting them all the respect and attention they deserve)
It appears that another dynamic duo may be on its way in Vol Land.
Sophomores Justin Hunter and Da'Rick Rogers have been sensational through two games this season. They’ve combined for 31 catches, 502 receiving yards and five touchdowns.
They also have one of the hottest quarterbacks in the country throwing to them. Fellow sophomore Tyler Bray leads the SEC in passing with 698 yards, seven touchdowns and no interceptions.
If the three of them were playing basketball right now, the rim would look like a crater on the moon.
That’s how hot they are. (via)
and one more shot of justin hunter packing the bearcats' lunchbox on saturday:

shit is getting embearassing in the midwest.

idiot republican exploiting state budget concerns to push conservative anti-union values by stripping labor rights from the hard-working people of wisconsin, scott walker, got punked by a prank caller this week, who was (barely) imitating conservative rich guy and political donor, david koch.

during the call, walker outlines all of his dubious strategies for tricking the runaway democrats into unwillingly participating in the vote, describes methods of bending laws in order to charge them with felonies, and expresses excitement at the mention of a free trip to california paid for by koch if his efforts are successful. i am not a fan of politicians acting like a bunch of babies, but i have an even bigger problem with said politicians being in the pockets of energy corporations. so i say: scott walker, you're busted. now, quit playin' and open up talks in the interest of finding some sort of compromise, so everyone can get back to work.
