Every so often you see a player whose talent is an instant revelation. May I present to you Tennessee wide receiver Cordarrelle (pronounced, Core-darryl) Patterson.

Daniel Shirey/US PresswireTennessee receiver Cordarrelle Patterson showed his explosiveness Friday night against NC State.
In the Volunteers' 35-21 win last Thursday against North Carolina State, Patterson beat All-American David Amerson on a 41-yard touchdown reception -- and he did it despite running the wrong route.
Later, the 6-foot-3, 205-pound Patterson scored on a 67-yard end-around by outrunning Amerson, who initially had a tackling angle.
"I'm not surprised one bit," said Tommy Mangino, the offensive coordinator at Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College, where Patterson played. "Not one bit."
Patterson is one of the reasons why Tennessee coaches weren't devastated when All-SEC receiver Da'Rick Rogers was recently dismissed from the team (Rogers transferred to Tennessee Tech). After seeing Patterson against NC State, it's obvious why they weren't.
Mangino, the son of former Kansas coach Mark Mangino, said Patterson's skill set is mind-boggling.
"I've been around some football players before," he said. "But I've really never seen anybody like him. He can do everything."
Patterson didn't qualify academically out of high school, didn't play in 2009, but eventually signed with Hutchinson and became a two-time juco All-American. Just 4 minutes and 29 seconds into his Tennessee career, he scored a TD. Fun.
"He didn't come from a lot," said Mangino. "His mom and sister have been there for him. No father figure in his life. ... He's a great kid."

"I've got this new yoga class. I've really been going in there and trying to get in touch with my Chi trying to keep everything level-headed. I think I've done a good job. The coaches have noticed, like you said, coming out here and really trying to stay positive because I feel like it's for the better of the team.
"It's something I found on my own. I've been trying to get my hands on a yoga mat, and I'm working on it. I think I'm going to get one this week. It'll be good for me."

da'id you know...

...that the vols' beloved reciever da'rick rogers was almost a smelly bulldog?
Da'Rick Rogers, who leads the SEC with six touchdown receptions, was committed to Georgia for seven months before changing his mind and choosing Tennessee at the last minute.
Former Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin laid the groundwork for Rogers’ flip-flop, and then current Tennessee coach Derek Dooley came in and finished the job.
“Everybody’s making a big story out of that,” Dooley said. “But for every one of those guys we get in Georgia, we lose about five others that we want. That’s just part of recruiting.” Rogers, who’s from Calhoun, Ga., said earlier this week that the reason he switched to Tennessee was to “build a new face of a program.”
His best friend in high school, Nash Nance, was a big reason the Vols were able to steal Rogers away from the Bulldogs. Nance was originally committed to Vanderbilt, but after getting an offer from Tennessee in late January, he changed his commitment to the Vols.
Nance and Rogers visited Tennessee together the last weekend in January, and a few days later, Rogers wound up signing with the Vols. (via)

a proper tennessee vols post.

(granting them all the respect and attention they deserve)
It appears that another dynamic duo may be on its way in Vol Land.
Sophomores Justin Hunter and Da'Rick Rogers have been sensational through two games this season. They’ve combined for 31 catches, 502 receiving yards and five touchdowns.
They also have one of the hottest quarterbacks in the country throwing to them. Fellow sophomore Tyler Bray leads the SEC in passing with 698 yards, seven touchdowns and no interceptions.
If the three of them were playing basketball right now, the rim would look like a crater on the moon.
That’s how hot they are. (via)

2 DAYS!

Freshman to watch: Da'Rick Rodgers

Nick-name: DaFreak
No: 21
Pos: WR
info: Da’Rick Rogers was the most notable name in last year’s recruiting class with many recruiting services calling him the top receiver in the nation. He was slated to go to Georgia, but then decided that he'd prefer to play for ol' Derek Doooooooley.
