i just heard of this on the internet. sarah koenig from this american life is doing a new podcast called serial.

Serial is a podcast where we unfold one nonfiction story, week by week, over the course of a season. We'll stay with each story for as long as it takes to get to the bottom of it.

the first season, of which 4 eps have been released, follows a mURdEr mYsTErY!!

On January 13, 1999, a girl named Hae Min Lee, a senior at Woodlawn High School in Baltimore County, Maryland, disappeared. A month later, her body turned up in a city park. She'd been strangled. Her 17-year-old ex-boyfriend, Adnan Syed, was arrested for the crime, and within a year, he was convicted and sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison. The case against him was largely based on the story of one witness, Adnan’s friend Jay, who testified that he helped Adnan bury Hae's body. But Adnan has always maintained he had nothing to do with Hae’s death. Some people believe he’s telling the truth. Many others don’t.

it is a new show kind of like homeland that is going to be on FX and it has felicity and the gay brother from brothers and sisters as russian spies or something. i'm going to find a way to watch this one. read a review here. it starts tonight.

tig notaro on fresh air

jicydak, comedienne tig notaro has been talked about a lot recently due to her now famous stand-up show back in august where she talked about the downward spiral her life had become after pneumonia turned into a terrible bacterial infection that almost killed her, her mother died, she and her gf broke up, and finally, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. read all about it here. louis ck tweeted that it was one of the few masterful stand-up performances he had witnessed.

this week, she appeared on fresh air, as did louis ck, to talk about the set and her prognosis.

This American Life has retracted "Mike Daisey Goes to the Apple Factory," the story that arguably started the recent spate of articles examining Apple manufacturer Foxconn, because a Marketplace reporter discovered Daisey had lied about the facts.  (via)

Budweiser is gathering groups of fans and bringing them to unsuspecting rec hockey games to give the players an nhl experience.

It reminds me of the improv everywhere story on TAL where they got a lot of people to come to a local band's show give them the show of a lifetime. Except, those guys were really bummed about it.

Attention everyone who never got to see our TV show on Showtime (or wants to see it again). Good news: Current TV is re-airing the entire series!

The show ran for two seasons, winning several Emmy awards including best nonfiction series. We're thrilled that more people will get to see it. Episodes will air Mondays at 10PM/9C, from January 10th through April 4th. If you have digital cable, chances are you have Current TV. (via)

i was just catching up on my this american life, and heard this story about a cop in a bed-stuy precinct of the NYPD mounting a case to expose some minor corruption involving illegal quota systems and whatnot. it gets real real.
