Congratulations are in order for the WINNER of the 1st Annual 2Pz Pets Halloween Costume Contest: Sour Grapes Charlie, and his human, SaraJane.

Congrats buddy, that costume was ceeeeyute. Thanks to all our contestants, you all are are adorable and we love you all.

bitch bitch bitch

jicydak, 311 is a genius idea mike bloomberg came up with. its what you call when you want something feeyuxed, but it's not an emergency. i've called twice. once, for a tow truck idling below my window during sleeping time. the other when there was steam coming out of my floorboards and my landlord couldn't figure out where it was coming from.
wired mag documented and infographic'd 35,000 of these calls to see what the hell new yorkers are cryin' about. check 'em out.

have you called 311? tell me everything.

thx midge!

want to have the pants scared off of you?

this haunting video of the six flags in new orleans, abandoned after hurrican katrina, is just terrifying. john, can we go?

demolition FAIL.

Yesterday a demolition crew blew up a 275-foot tower at the old Mad River Power Plant in Springfield, Ohio to great fanfare. But there was one problem — it fell the wrong way and took out the area's electricity. (via)

Woke up to the sound of gunshots this morning...

Welcome to the huuuud.

have you ever wanted to see historic city hall subway station?

ive got the answer... just stay on the 6 train! at the end of the line, at the Brooklyn Bridge stop, the train loops through the abandoned city hall station to turn around to go back uptown. do we have any new york correspondents who want to take on this adventure and take some pics?

if this isn't the picture of courage, what is?

iphone auto-correct FAILS.

50 reasons..

...to be pumped that you live in nyc. i think a lot of us could use some reminders these days, amiright ladies?!!? some of these are a bit cheesy, but here are a few that i identified with:
50. Sending your laundry out for someone else to wash and dry it is not only convenient, it's just good business.
48. The secret Chick Fil-A at the NYU dining hall.
26. Smart people are the norm, not the exception. (Which doesn't mean they're sane, but at least no one's boring.)
25. Except in select 'hoods like Park Slope and perhaps the Upper West Side, children are viewed as mysterious beings, rarely sighted and only occasionally understood, like pixies or magical small butlers. Until they scream, in which case, they are banished from the palace.
24. When you fly back into the city after a vacation or business trip, no matter how long you've lived here, you get that butterflies-in-the-stomach feeling.
19. There's no shame in sticking your fingers in your ears like an anal weirdo when an ambulance goes by screeching.
10. Subway rage. Bike-lane rage. Walking rage. Random rage. These are our therapy.
7. Subway "prewalking," in which you walk to the exact right spot on the platform to board the train car that will save you the most time upon exit, exists and has a name. Gotta respect. (via)
