The official reporters of the Parliamentary Reporting Office record the proceedings and debates in parliament verbatim. Volumes of these verbatim reports (Handelingen) are stored in this library. When it was built at the end of the 19th century, there was no electricity—combustible substances, such as candles and gas lamps, had to be kept away from the more than 100,000 volumes. after some helpful reminders from g.animalz, i finally got around to watching fred armisen's new sketch comedy show about portland. it's called portlandia, and also stars carrie brownstein of sleater-kinney and all songs considered. it's on the IFC channel on friday nights. set your dvr's, you won't regret it.

the king's speech : real vs. fake

joel and i saw the king's speech yesterday. i'll let him give you the full review, but i'll tell you it was 11 biscuits!


it's not really a spoiler to tell you that the movie is about king george VI's stuttering problem. this is the real video of the speech depicted in the beginning of the film (seen in trailer below). the stammering really gets going around the 2:30 mark.
