this is essentially a memphis- new york blog, and harold ford jr is essentially a memphis- new york guy. i voted for him in 2006 when he lost to bob corker to represent tennessee in the senate, a race he would have won if the republicans hadn't run that racist campaign ad.

now he wants to be in the senate again, this time in new york. stephen colbert, ms. gillibrand , and barack obama are doing their best to make sure that doesn't happen.

it doesn't really bother me that he flip flopped his position on gay marriage, etc... it seems to me that an elected official should be voting according to the beliefs of his district anyway. i think he would be a fine senator, and am a little confused about the "carpetbagger" discomfort considering they are basically replacing another former southern transplant in Hillary Clinton. what do you think?

his flip flop wouldn't bother me if he hadn't voted to amend the federal constitution to ban same-sex-marriage. even a self-respecting republican should know that's trampling on state's rights. i can forgive a simple change of mind, but he voted to enshrine discrimination in the constitution.

i hope he loses, because senator gillibrand is doing her part to end don't ask don't tell, and who know if that old gay bashing carpetbagger would do the same.
