some internet trinkets

here are some things that made my eyes water while reading about our beloved footvols:
Tennessee has reason for optimism: The loss hurts and it looked like the Volunteers were going to pull off the upset of the No. 6 team in the country, but there are definitely positives to be taken away. For starters, the kind of fight and grittiness Tennessee showed is what you want to see in your football team and something that hasn't necessarily been there in recent years. The Vols could have easily folded up like a tent when down 17-3 and Georgia was on the verge of taking a three-score lead before a missed field goal. Instead, they fought to the point that they put themselves in position to win. That's a huge positive for new coach Butch Jones. Secondly, quarterback Justin Worley played his best game of the year and made some big-time throws down the stretch. The execution by Worley down the stretch -- as well as the offense as a whole on three fourth-down plays in the second half -- was terrific. (via)

Butch Jones’ message: Lost in Tennessee’s gut-wrenching 34-31 overtime loss to Georgia was a message from first-year coach Butch Jones to Vols fans that was unmistakable: He plays to win, and that’s the way it’s going to be on his watch. Tennessee went for it on fourth down three times in the fourth quarter, twice in its own territory, and converted all three. It wasn’t just that the Vols went for it on fourth down, but the play calls were absolute beauties. Tennessee is still a ways off from being an SEC contender, but Jones continues to grind away … and stack those bricks. (via)
12. Tennessee (3-3, 0-2 SEC; LW: 13): What a fight by Tennessee in that heartbreaking loss to Georgia. The Bulldogs did sustain some serious injuries, but Justin Worley delivered some big-time throws and wide receiver Pig Howard is turning into a real playmaker, except for that goal-line fumble. This defense still has a long way to go, but Saturday showed that this team truly has heart. (via)

its nErD aLeRt thursday!

a movie about architecture school! just what the world needs!
After years of production, the documentary film Archiculture is set to premiere at this year’s Newport Beach Film Festival, which will commence on April 25th. Highlighting a group of students amidst their final design projects, the film illustrates the strengths and perils of architectural education. Shigeru Ban, Thom Mayne, Ken Frampton and Phil Bernstein are some of the leading architects, educators and historians that will be featured in the film, offering insightful criticism about studio-based, design education as it exists today. we are optimists at heart, aren't we?

3 DAYS!!!!

y'all, it's almost here. if you'd like to read a hopeful take on our 2012 season prospects, try this article on for size:
Justin Hunter was the best pass-catcher on the team until his early-season knee injury in 2011. Nearly 12 months later, he's back on the field and close to 100 percent. Two-time JUCO All-American wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson will also be reeling in catches, though he'll have to pick up the offense quicker than planned now.
Rajion Neal saw an opening at tailback and seized it. He outworked, out-practiced and out-scrimmaged Marlin Lane for the top spot. Lane was as sure a starter as any Volunteer in spring, but Neal showed the kind of fight that the Volunteers have lacked the past two seasons. Maybe he can be the spark for the running game.
The offensive line is extremely experienced and terrific at pass blocking, giving up the fewest sacks of any SEC team in 2011. The unit needs to improve its run blocking this year but should find that easier if the passing game can put up early points.
And then there's Tyler Bray. (via)

4 DAYS!!!

i have it on good authority (the internet) that the vols have been running drills while listening to this song?

personally, i think they could've found a more upbeat song with a similar message, but i'm glad theyre as hopeful as i am. ;(

15 days.

some ridiculous hype to get you pumped up:
Now, we'll all admit now that we may have made a bad choice with Lane Kiffin. But that's okay, because Lane Kiffin got us to Derek Dooley. And I'm telling you, this guy knows his stuff. He's gonna bring the intensity and perfection he demands of himself to the team this fall. And if his father could win at Georgia? The son is guaranteed to win at Tennessee.
See, we've gone back to our roots. This one, he understands us. He understands southern football. If I go down to the Big Orange Caravan to look him in the eye, he's not going to be hiding behind some sunglasses. He's going to stare into my soul and make me believe that we're going to win right away. That rebuilding thing people keep talking about? We just don't do that around here. We've just spent the last couple of years being good to a legend and letting him stay on maybe too long, and then taking the sort of chances that championship programs take! But this one, he ain't no chance. Derek Dooley is the real deal. Boom. (via)
