d'y'all watch the game last night?

kylie's in hawaii, so i guess this is on me?

For 16 Minutes, Carli Lloyd Was The Greatest Player Of All Time

the USWNT won the world cup last night, and if you didn't watch it, i feel bad for you.  it was the most watched soccer game EVER in the u.s.a.  even more than the gentlemen's team, so you really are alone.  and if you didn't watch it on telemundo, well... watch these highlights.

how about carli lloyd for the $10 bill?  for 16 minutes last night, she was the greatest player of all time.  but don't take my word for, i'm just plagiarizing deadspin.

are you watching the world cup?

the USWNT play germany in the semi-finals tonight (7pm EST on fox).

read THIS to get caught up:
The game should be a great one. Consider that Germany has scored the most goals this tournament (20), and the U.S. has allowed just a single goal. The U.S. and Germany have each won the World Cup twice.
The United States reached the semifinals primarily on the strength of its defense: The team hasn't given up a goal since the tournament opener five games ago against Australia. The U.S., led by goalkeeper Hope Solo, have held opponents scoreless for 423 consecutive minutes (the longest stretch for the U.S. in World Cup history). The U.S. also is the only country to reach the semifinals in all seven World Cup tournaments.
and if you really want to get into strategy...read THIS.

CATFISH

This about as good a team goal as you will see, and should be a rival of the goal of the tournament. It’s so good in fact it almost looks faked, an uncanny valley of brilliant football from by the reigning world champions, Japan. Though Mizhuo Sakaguchi’s wonderful curled shot would be worthy of any highlight reel on its own, the build up—a back-heel, a perfectly timed feint, and then the one touch finish—transforms this into something else. Communist Panda World Cup Predictor UPDATE

Guess what?!?! China spoiled our plans for a perfect bracket by BANNING these cuties from picking the winners...something about "safety and health reasons" and "human overexposure". #oyrchina

The good news is that they picked the next best thing to play and overdose on treats: TURTLES! I couldn't find very many cute photos of the communist turtle named Big Head but that's probably bc he is ashamed. Rumor has it Big Head picked losers like England, Japan, & Spain as winners (me too big head, me too-except Japan, WHAT WAS HE THINKING...like Japan could ever be good at futbol). Here's an action shot:

looking goood turtle.

FIFA tip of the day: if you are looking to improve your score (im looking at you ifyoumakeit) jump on the Shaheen bandwagon. This adorable little puppeh is giving our deceased octopussy friend a run for his money and also has a perfect picking record so far.

as a bonus our Shaheen already has a movie gig...here's his animated debut!!

5) surprise! four minutes later an american boy knocks the ball in with his head and we're winning again!

6) USA! USA! USA! USA! USA!

Croatian Butts

the croatian soccer team may have lost their world cup match against Brazil, but then they took a long naked group soak int he hot tub, so we are all winners now. via

10 June 2014

which psychic animal will you get your world cup predictions from?

here are your options:

shaheen and waslawi, the mama and baby camelz. they signal their picks by eating from piles of "mushed up dates" placed next to country flags.

nelly the elephant. i think her method is fairly self-explanatory.

an unnamed baby panda of china's choosing. the cub (who has been invited to make predictions, but not yet introduced to the world) will climb trees with flags on 'em.

¡grupo....de la MUERTA!

the world cup 2014 group drawing happened today....and it is TERRIBLE news for the estados unidos.
Every World Cup has had a so-called "Group of Death," or the group that pits together several favored heavyweights to battle it out, often sending a top-ranked team home. This year's draw could put those to shame though. "World Cup 2014 promises to be a tournament so suffocatingly competitive that the traditional clichéd "Group of Death" will feel redundant," ESPN explained. Due to a draw quirk, one potential group could include the frightening powers of Brazil, Italy, the Netherlands and the United States together; "The Group of Death to end all Groups of Death," as SB Nation called it.
UPDATE: The U.S. has landed in Group G, with Ghana (a team that has beaten the U.S. in the last two World Cups), Germany (the team that U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann used to captain as a player), and Portugal (a perennial world power.) (via)
i know what you're thinking: "what else can you tell me about that armadillo mascot?!?!"

his name is fuleco, and this is his wikipedia page. i see that he's a three-banded armadillo, which any armadillo connoisseur worth her wait in ants can tell you is the only kind of armadillo that can roll into a ball!
