okay!

The downtown Tomato Head may soon have more space.
Architect Elizabeth Eason has submitted an application to the Historic Zoning Commission that outlines a renovation plan which includes expansion into the space at 14 Market Square, formerly home to Marble Slab Creamery.
Among other things, the application outlines plans for an additional black metal fence enclosure; a new metal awning; and new wood windows.
In 2009, Tomato Head owners Mahasti Vafaie and Scott Partin paid $740,000 to buy 14 Market Square.
Partin said Tuesday that the restaurant is aiming to expand by February or March. (via)
plenty of room up here in brooklyn, too....

downward da'freak

"I've got this new yoga class. I've really been going in there and trying to get in touch with my Chi trying to keep everything level-headed. I think I've done a good job. The coaches have noticed, like you said, coming out here and really trying to stay positive because I feel like it's for the better of the team.
"It's something I found on my own. I've been trying to get my hands on a yoga mat, and I'm working on it. I think I'm going to get one this week. It'll be good for me."

what did you do this weekend?

well! i'm back! jicydak, i went to tennessee this weekend, including a trip to neyland stadium for a footvolgame! here are some highlights.

we'll start with knoxville:
it was a perfect day, and we got in some really great tailgating on ol' fiji island. everyone looked great. i must've gotten some beer on my b-berry, because most of these pixies are blurry2death.
grace came with me, and joel was there!
the pride of the southland welcomed us with a beautiful power T.
i don't know if you heard, but we kind of embearassed ole piss.
there was a lot of this going on.
that night we drank our hearts out, and joel and i ended up at a random karaoke bar, without a car. so we killed time as needed.
until djv came! he rescued us and took us to cool beans, but there was a line out to the damn street, so we had to relocate our college-bar-nostalgia venue to OCI. it looked and felt like this.
we stopped at the pilot on the way home for 18 natty lights.

middle tennessee highlights included:

grace's homemade dinner. jazzy helped! they're friends4life, jicyww.
risotto, veggies, salad, etc! it was so delicious, y'all.
a day of shopping in nashville, featuring this great boutique, imogene + willie. ktv recommended!
and oc, hangin' with jAzZy!

not pictured:

our drinking time with sarah and sean sharp. what a delight!
delicious 9-person brunch at tomatohead on sunday.
our monday night nashville dinner with ktv + beeun. sorry guys! i was too busy making sure tom was wasting our time, and forgot to snap some pixies.
probs lots of other stuff.

tales from the south : knoxville!

this post has been a long time coming, and since you've all been so patient, i'm going to reward you with an extra-long post of my sights and anecdotes from my journey to this east tennessee oasis.

i used to just love this part of the drive to and from knoxville. the middle tennessee countryside between the boro and smithville.

aka patrick halley.

here we are! and there she is!

orange house! where bun-bun, vomas, et al lived!

first i went to market square...and to my surprise, there was a real-life market in it!

swine flu buffet, am i right?

omg tOmAtOhEaD!!

met up with some lovely lunch-mates: brother beeun, katie, phil, beeun metz, vomas, meg, and MaRkIe!!!!

what's for lunch? the ol' standby:
tuscan chicken on wheat with blue corn chips and a pickle. we had a hummus appertizzer.

jelly?

this was the worst band on the planet, roughly. i hollered at them to play rocky top and all i got was the melody played meekly on the clarinet. everyone else just stood there. we clapped for a while, but eventually lost our spirit.

look at the ugly new neyland stadium! sean said it looked like they shoved a multi-plex into the side of it. and i agree. but go vols. you know.

remember this place? it's the architecture building. so many emotions....

i lol'd when i saw this. its a diving board. and it's 4.5 stories up. good one.

good idea.

the a+a cafe got sold out! it's an einstein's bagels!

i don't want to think about how much DC i woulda drank if this was in place when i was there...

i'm a little jelly of that.

new rock location. ;(

old better rock location. =*(

after a brief campus adventure, we had the pleasure of seeing sara and sean sharp!

pizza and beers at barley's. mmmmm.

all in all, it was a delightful trip. it was great to see everyone, and i'm sad i couldn't stay. i heard shit got crazy later at sassy anne's!

ONE BEER AND ONE TENDER!!

pregame knoxville antics

this weekend, the volunteers faced off against in state rival (cough), the university of memphis. mom, dad, melissa, and i made the trip to knoxville to play and enjoy the football atmosphere.

whats for lunch???????
obvi, no trip to knoxville is complete without lunch at tomato head. melissa got the pizza (of course), dad got the tomato head sammy, and mom and i both ended up with the turkey melt. not pictured: hummus and blue corn chip appetizer.

wig shop

mom cuddles up to mr. chick fil a.
you may rightly ask, "mom, where the F is your orange?" and you would be right for asking. answer: we got complimentary visiting player guest tickets, and she felt bad.

glorious day! its football time in tennessee!

post script: we asked for the tomato head hummus recipe, and they said they dont give it out... but we did get the ingredient list. im going to work on a little reverse engineering, and we will soon be enjoying tomato head from the comfort of our own food processors.

dreamz

lil wayne was in my dream last night. and so was tomatohead. also, there were animatronic guard squirrels on atlantic avenue. gabe punched one of them. and i woke up with this song in my head. again. it has been that way almost every morning since i saw that video.

bun-bun's trip to knoxville

bun-bun spent the day in knoxville and sent me a few photos from his findings there:

neyland stadium getting rueened.

some new drawing holders in the ol' a+a.

they've also put up first-aid kits around the a+a, so you might have a chance of surviving an x-acto injury now!

omg tomatohead. not fair. that better not be a tuscan chicken sandwich with blue chips and a side of hummus. i'm pretty sure it is. don't forget to bring me what i asked you...

thx for sharing, bunners! you should tell seth to wipe off his cameraphone lens.
