you guys.
now that a couple of days have passed, i can trust that this wasn't just a glorious dream.
for all of your enquiring minds, starla's first words were "i wanna go back to nashville." but instead we got drunk on the strip with the college students.
here is an excellent takeaway.

NeRd aLeRt!!!
Ummmm, have you heard about this fancy new Walmart (with neighboring Publix and retail center) that is about to open up next door to The University of Tennessee campus? Part of a new old-looking development called University Crossing. You might remember the actual-old industrial plant called Fulton Bellows that operated on that site until 2005. At least all those students aren't going to have to drive to Turkey Creek anymore.
Here's another pic of the huge selection of UT gear at the @Walmart in the University Commons. #CollegeColors #Vols pic.twitter.com/WR7rbG1jIB

tootin' tennessee's hornz
my beloved hometown, and college town of 2pz founders keekerz and joel, knoxville, tn, aka k-town, aka scruffy city, aka knox vegas, is headlining the nytimes arts homepage right now. big ears festival (b.ears festival, for short) just ended and they had some things to say about it.
What all this adds up to is that Big Ears seems to be a festival about the experience of listening, full stop, rather than listening to genre X or tradition Y. It gives concertgoers — in comfortable theaters, in a comfortable town without a lot of other distractions — as much power as a composer or performer in determining what music means, gambling that those concertgoers might over time grow a culture around that feeling. (nytimes)go knoxville! and vols. btdubz, cuonzo isn't going to marquette.

help the knoxville zoo name their baby red pandas
you can submit suggestions for the name-the-red-pandas contest right HERE!
and don't bother submitting "chips and salsa", "cherry and blossom", "noodles and dumpling" or "pat and phil", because i've already taken care of those.
and i believe bun-bun's on top of "ching chong and ping pong"....

derek dooley's tacky ass house of broken dreams is on the market
Our loser former football coach doesn't need his ugly 5 bedroom/ 8 bathroom mansion anymore because he is going to work for the Dallas Cowgirls. If you have 2.9 millions of dollars, you don't mind living in Knoxville, and the smell of failure doesn't offend your nose, then check out the rest of the details here.
Ooooh! While you're traveling down the boulevard of broken promises that is former Tennessee coach houses, check out Bruce Pearl's home that is also for sale and is also tacky as fuck. Painted sky dome? via

okay!
The downtown Tomato Head may soon have more space.
Architect Elizabeth Eason has submitted an application to the Historic Zoning Commission that outlines a renovation plan which includes expansion into the space at 14 Market Square, formerly home to Marble Slab Creamery.
Among other things, the application outlines plans for an additional black metal fence enclosure; a new metal awning; and new wood windows.
In 2009, Tomato Head owners Mahasti Vafaie and Scott Partin paid $740,000 to buy 14 Market Square.
Partin said Tuesday that the restaurant is aiming to expand by February or March. (via)plenty of room up here in brooklyn, too....
