i hope you're all following gawker's "new york's best restaurant is:" series.

the two best gawker writers, caity weaver and rich juzwiak have been doing this series where they go to touristy restaurants in the city and tell us what they're like. the latest one was an all-drinking feature at the restaurant in the 5th avenue tommy bahama's store. here's an excerpt:
Rich: This idea of yours made me wonder if you've been regarding me with jealousy during our "Best Restaurant in New York" excursions, since I generally get a drink (fine, two drinks) and you never do. Are you envious of my champagne-sipping lifestyle?
Caity: Absolutely not. I love Diet Coke. Diet Coke is my favorite thing to drink. My second favorite thing to drink, I have recently learned, is "Coconut Cloud Martini" from the Tommy Bahama store on 5th Avenue. That was the first cocktail I ordered this afternoon, and I remember it like it was yesterday.
joel and thomas wilhelm and i are going to go if anyone feels like joining?

fortnightly boat

speaking of buckwild, don't drink and boat.

I was the one who threw the beer, he was really drunk the first beer we threw he caught one handed like a ninja. The second one he didn't have quite as much grace it hit him right in the chin. The can blew up on his tooth when he came up he had a gash almost through his lip and he was wiggling his tooth it looked like it was about ready to fall out. (via)
yip skiddly doooooo!!

aperol strikes their fancy

aperol is a delicious, albeit slightly bitter italian liquor. I introduced joel to it over bulgogi sammies at lokal months ago. now the times is finally getting around to drinking it too. You should try an aperol spritz, they are summertime in a glass.

typical georgia...

ATHENS, Ga. -- Starting Georgia outside linebacker Cornelius Washington was arrested early Sunday near Commerce, Ga., and charged with speeding and driving under the influence.
Georgia coach Mark Richt said Sunday that Washington will sit out the Bulldogs' upcoming games against Tennessee and Vanderbilt following the arrest.
A Jackson County Jail spokesman said Washington, 22, was booked and released on a $3,500 property bond following his arrest for suspicion of misdemeanor DUI and driving 92 mph in a 55-mph zone on U.S. Highway 441.
Commerce police stopped Washington's 2009 Dodge Journey at the corner of 441 and State Street and administered an Alco-Sensor test to Washington -- who told the officer he had consumed "a couple of shots several hours prior," according to the arrest report -- and a female passenger, who was asleep in the passenger seat.
Washington registered a 0.12 on the test -- exceeding the legal limit of 0.08 -- and failed a standard field sobriety test, according to the report. The female passenger blew a 0.176 and was booked for underage possession of alcohol.

brb outside : austin!

as many of you know, i spent last weekend in the happiest place on earth: austin, texas. i had never been, and my hosts, jeff, hank, and erin baker mooney gave me a wonderful tour. we spent most of our time eating, drinking, and relaxing outdoors. i even got a little bit of a suntan! here are some pixies.
the view from the mooneys'.
this is hank. he is a goldendoodle, and he will carry his own leash.
this is how he rides in cars.
this is a picture of him jumping for a stick in zilker park, which is one of his favorite places.
south congress street is a really cute part of town, featuring lots of boutiques, restaurants, bars, etc.
food truck park on south congress. what are you lookin' at, glasses?
 i had a chicken-fried avocado for lunch at doc's.
this is a really great shirt that i found at storyville.
a mural inside home slice pizza, which erin constructed pretty much by herself.
the austin motel.
not on congress, but still. look at that.
austin is very dog-friendly, which means hank gets to come to happy hour, this time at clive.
hank shares a stick with his friends jake and ruby.
jeff had a little dinner table accident at polvos : before (notice the precarious perch)
after. ;(
 hank at the pool.
hank at brunch at austin java.
hank on one of his favorite trails.
and finally, hank swimmin'!

are you jelly? i thought you would be. i have a few more pixies right here.

extra special thx to the mooneys for providing such a nice vacation. i'll be back very soon!
