holy moly watch out

Two people have been injured in Turkey after huge chunks of snow fell off a roof and hit passers-by.
The snow had piled up on the roof of a mosque in the city of Rize.
The incident was captured on CCTV, and shows pedestrians trying to free those who were buried by the snow.
Two women were taken to hospital for treatment.

Mayors - they're just like us!

Adorable Everyman Mayor de Blasio took to shoveling snow today after Snowstorm Hercules dropped a big dump on New York:

Although I thought that was Dante's job, according to his mom:

While I respect the Mayor's commitment to Keeping It Real, I kind of also appreciated the fact that Mayor Bloomberg was so rich he could pay someone to do life chores while he focused on mayoral tasks like reducing soda sizes and plopping bike paths everywhere.

super bowl xlviiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111111

2013_05_tobag1.jpg

the best part of the super bowl coming to new york city jersey is this incredible installation in times square:

"Broadway will feature an eight-lane, 180-foot long, 58-foot-high toboggan run able to handle up to 1,000 riders an hour. The run — between 40th and 41st Sts. — will be open from Jan. 29 to Feb. 1, the day before Super Bowl XLVIII is played at MetLife Stadium. The plans for the toboggan ride, along with other events and exhibits, will be officially unveiled on Tuesday." via
you'll be able to find me there with my friends.  through the magic of magic, i was able to take this picture of my friend's first ride down the slide.

Look! It's A Bear On A Slide! This Bear Thinks It's People!

it's hunkerin' time!

gather up your loved ones and head for the hills.

While the forecast is still subject to change, the current indication is that while New England will bear the brunt of the storm’s severity — with more than two feet of snow and blizzardlike conditions – New York City and the surrounding area are also in for a significant hit.
By the time the storm has passed through, sometime on Saturday, forecasters predict the storm will have dumped as much as a foot of snow in the area, while delivering blistering winds reaching 50 m.p.h., and flooding coastal areas.

winter is coming

WARNING: if you live in the New York City area, you might not have long to live. Snowicane Sandy is coming and she is a real bitch and is going to pack a mean punch. Starting on Sunday and lasting two or three days, the worst hurricane/ thunderstorm/ snow cloud/ high tide is about to sit right on top of your neighborhood and take a weather dump. If you want details about your imminent demise, check here.

Snowicane Sandy has already claimed the precious lives of two Caribbean Islanders, including a Haitian lady who tried to cross a flooded stream and a Jamaican man who was crushed by a boulder that fell from up high. True story. NYC doesn't have a lot of boulders, but you know what we do have a lot of? STREAMS AND THINGS UP HIGH.

If I die, I just want you all to know that I love you and I'm sorry for that thing I did, you know what I'm talking about.

chicago knows what they're doing.

did you hear about chicago's snowpocalypse the other day? they got like a bunch of windy snow, and it all happened so fast that hundreds of cars became almost immediately stranded on lake shore drive. drivers were trapped in their vehicles all night, as police wouldn't let anyone walk away. i guess they thought it was too cold. at first it seemed like a huge emergency management blunder, and it probably was. but the city is going the extra mile to make things right for everyone involved in this 'inconvenience'.
With 20 inches of snow and winds that hit 60 mph, the blizzard closed Lake Shore Drive for 34 hours. Overnight, the city plowed the snow, moved the stranded vehicles to six holding lots, then reopened Lake Shore about 5:50 a.m. this morning.
Unlike New York City, which became infamous for destroying its own vehicles during its blizzard, city officials set up this website to let owners know where they could find their towed cars and trucks. The city will even provide enough free fuel to get off the lot if the vehicles ran low while trapped. (via)
how nice.

a little birdy told me...

...that a certain someone (who I will not name to protect the guilty) did not go to work today on account of the "snow storm" that was really just a few disappointing flurries. look at this NJ transit website screen capture (c2e):

there are no service cancellations! streets are plowed, the trains are on the fucking rails. a certain someone could have been at work by 8:08 am! what's your boss's email? i'm going to tell. on. you.
