2Pz trendsetters trend piece : candy crush saga
or as it is called, adorably, by thomas wilhelm: CANDY CRUNCH.
candy crunch is this summer's hottest trend, and if you're not playing it, then you are a complete nobody. please read this informative piece about its development and inner workings. here are some highlights:
candy crunch is this summer's hottest trend, and if you're not playing it, then you are a complete nobody. please read this informative piece about its development and inner workings. here are some highlights:
"Sometimes I just go into the bathroom and sit on the seat and play," a colleague confessed, describing some quality in-office downtime. "I don't tell many people that . . ."
When it comes to the sound effects, we have a fun story there—you know the "Delicious" the voice [that happens when a player is on a hot streak or wins the game]? Originally it was a funny French accent, but that wasn't appreciated, so we changed it and we did kind of a petition on the website to have different people trying it and found this rather deep voice that felt really good in the concept.
We try to make sure from the beginning with Candy Crush that you should be able to complete the game without having to pay. Of the people on the last level (currently level 385) 70% of those players haven't paid to get there.
In Hong Kong, one of every seven people in the country plays the game on the daily basis.

terror alert
some science folks think this summer will bring new york city a plague of mosquitos. go ahead and read this if you'd like to be terrified to leave your house for 3 months (or maybe ever).
They are coming. There is no doubt that they are coming. What we don’t know is when they will come and how many there will be.
The last outstanding question is: Are we prepared? From a public-health standpoint, that is, and from the standpoint of dealing with seriously annoying things. Because mosquitoes are both a major health hazard and about the most irritating creatures known to man. Even ticks are easier to get along with, which is saying a lot, given that they are bloodsuckers, too.
Biologists call mosquitoes commensals, from the Latin indicating that we share the same table. The table is our lives, in the summer. The meal is our blood.
Most winters thin the mosquito population. When weather is warmer, mosquitoes tend to thrive. This winter, as is well known, there was no winter. (via)you're going to want to at least read as far as the "sewer skeeter" section. #dontwatchdave #youretoosweettoresist

What I Am Doing on My Summer Vacation
By: DJV
On Saturday, May 21st I will be walking in our graduation here at school (not barbequing at Blithewood…)

On Wednesday, May 25th, I will be driving back to NY.

On Saturday, May 28th, I will be attending a wedding on Lake George, NY (pixies to follow)

Starting June 1st, I will be subletting a furnished apartment in Manhattan. (sorry Joel).

On July 1st, I will be starting a Master’s in Educational Leadership (think dept head, Dean of Students, vice principal) at Bank Street College of Education

Which is right across the street from my new favorite diner.

I will also try to secure a better position but keep that under your hat.

and they've got some new food features:
To understand the bazaar’s impact on the local dining scene, one need only trek to opening weekend of the outdoor season April 2 and 3, when a new crop of vendors will unveil their nascent businesses and brand expansions to a ravenous public (check brooklynflea.com for vendor location and schedule). Here are but a few of the newcomers to make their debuts this Saturday in Fort Greene, and Sunday at the Flea’s new Williamsburg location, on a 40,000-square-foot riverside lot leased from the Edge condo development. (Come May, Flea organizers will inaugurate a dedicated food market there on Saturdays, with Greenmarket farmers joining an expanded mix of purveyors and street-food stands. Working name: Smorgasburg.) (via)
