trend alert?

with the 9th annual international cornhole cup rapidly approaching (june 14, jicyww), i've been brushing up on what the kids are listening to, and i noticed a thing.

this is a new song by jeremih featuring YG, which i shared with you as a potential song of the summer. it features a (pretty loose) sample from 90's clurb anthem "rhythm is a dancer".

this is a new song by kid ink featuring chris brown, and i noticed it sounded pretty much exactly the same. the sample in this one is from the 90's clurb anthem "show me love" by robin s.

the answer to this riddle is that both tracks were produced by some guy named dj mustard, who is clearly phoning it in. you can recognize him by his "mustard on tha beat" calling card. i guess it's not really a trend if it's just one guy repeating the same formula. i hope it catches on though because i'm enjoying the aesthetic.

on a side note: what are the odds that two songs called "show me love" would be released in the same year by people named robin / robyn?

UPDATE: ugh here's another song that sounds exactly the same.

come on, dj mustard.

beyonce says: "48 days until the election"

last night Beyonce and Jay Z hosted a $40,000 per plate fundraiser at the 40/40 club last night

President Obama had some high words of praise for his hosts at the party, as well, joking that he's actually got a lot in common with rap superstar, and new dad, Jay. "Jay-Z now knows, you know, what my life is like," he said. "We both have daughters. And our wives are more popular than we are ... So we've got a little bond there. It's hard, but it's OK."

He also noted that first lady Michelle and his daughters Malia and Sasha were mad at him because they could not make it to the fundraiser on a school night. Obama thanked both stars for their generosity toward his children and singled out Beyoncé for being a good example to the girls.

"Beyoncé could not be a better role model for our daughters because she carries herself with such class and poise," he said. "And has so much talent."

omg clurb thurmbz!!

g.animalz spotted it weeks ago, while watching jennifer's body. megan fox has got baby thumbs. once you know, it's all you ever see. so, it seemed an odd choice by motorola to cast her in their super bowl commercial, where she pushes buttons on one of their mobile devices while taking a bath, a task that calls an unusual amount of attention to one's thumbs.

well, it turns out, she's got an actual medically-defined condition. it's called brachylachyclurbthurmb, and she sold out a whole community of fellow sufferers by employing a thumb double in the commercial.

and guess what else! that bitch has clurbtoez too!!!!

Dr. Richard Kim, director of congenital hand surgery at Hackensack Medical Center, notes that the thumb is the most important finger of all.

"You need it to be able to touch the other fingers and it is important for pinching," he says. "In Megan Fox’s case, it appears that only the last bone of the thumb is affected and that it does not involve the joint. For her, it looks like it’s just a cosmetic deficit."

In some cases, people with clubbed thumbs often have the same condition with their toes.

Brace yourselves: this feature also applies to Fox.

tales from the south : atlanta round-up

one thing you might not know about me, is that i was born in atlanta, georgia...

in this very hospital, in fact. this was the first place i ever WAS.

some of my family still lives there, and i went down to visit my aunt laurie and uncle mark and cousin stanley this past weekend.

while i was in town, i found out that a big group of my murfreesboro friends who now live in atl were having a cook out, so i went to visit!
from left-to-right in an up-and-down zig-zag pattern: dale, eric, stacey, bill, me, michelle, will gill, matt ferry, and tyler.

this is billy! i credit him with the esteemed title of "my oldest friend". what an honor! we've known each other since 3rd grade, when i moved to tennessee in 1991. that means we've been friends for 18 years! omg.

as every good cook-out does, this one led to a trip to the strip clurb. this wasn't just any strip clurb, however. this is the clermont lounge, which came highly recommended by john, i should say. it is atlanta's oldest strip club, and it seemed to employ atlanta's oldest strippers (tyler's tagline: "where strippers go to die")

we found this vols car on the way home. isnt it gorgeous?

stacey and dale were nice enough to let me stay with them in their apartment along this ridiculously long hallway.

lola! wanna go to the roof?! wanna go for an elevator ride?!? huh?!

the view from stacey and dale's roof in midtown! pretty!

big thanks to everyone mentioned here for the hospitality and a great visit!
