Paul William "Bear" Bryant is Spinning in His Grave!

This is some week-old news, but it seems when Bama fans aren't destroying public property, Bama alumni are sexually assaulting unconscious strangers in public.  I can't say I'm surprised.  This quote from CBS 42 in Birmingham sums up the incident using an excellent choice of words [emphasis mine]:
It all stems from a video that went viral showing [Brian] Downing and friends abusing a passed out LSU fan in a burger restaurant on Bourbon Street after the BCS game. Downing's companions performed a series of pranks on the passed out LSU fan and then the man identified now as Downing proceeded to drape his scrotum on the man's head...that led to the sexual battery and obscenity charges.
Here's the NSFW video:

CBS 42 also gives us some insight into who Downing is:
So who is Brian Downing and how did he find himself with both notoriety and a possible lifetime designation as a sex offender? He's married with a wife, a (sic) child. He's already been fired from his job with Hibbett Sports. And he has a second cousin who’s the sheriff of Russell County...Russell County Sheriff Heath Taylor recognized his cousin in the video and told him to come on down to the county jail. After checking with New Orleans police, Downing drove to New Orleans to turn himself in.
Fun Fact : Deadspin is reporting that one of the other "gentlemen" in the video is the son of the sports director at the CBS affiliate in Mobile.  So there's something to be proud of all around.

If you want more details on this story, Deadspin has plenty of thorough coverage.

I said it once, and I'll say it again; it's time to DIG HIM UP...F HIS CORPSE!

elizabeth warren : class act.

BROCKTON, Mass. -- Moments into a speech before volunteers here Wednesday evening, Elizabeth Warren was interrupted by a Tea Party supporter who hurled a gender-based epithet at the Senate candidate. The man, who said he'd been unemployed since February 2010, objected to Warren's expressed affiliation with the frustrations of Occupy Wall Street, and argued that the Tea Party has been protesting Wall Street excess for longer than the nascent global movement.
The crowd tried to shout the man down, but Warren told her supporters to let him speak. "No, no, it's alright. Let me say two things," she said. "I'm very sorry that you've been out of work. I'm also very sorry that the recent jobs bill that would've brought 22,000 jobs to Massachusetts did not pass in the Senate."
Speaking in a packed VFW hall, Warren went on to address his question about her association with Occupy Wall Street. "I've been protesting what's been going on on Wall Street for a very long time," she said, but added that the movement has its own independent agenda and will proceed along its own course.
"Yeah, so has the Tea Party," the man said, before losing his cool.
"Well, if you're the intellectual creator of that so-called party," he said, "you're a socialist whore. I don't want anything to do with you." The crowd shouted him down as he added that Warren's "boss," presumably referring to the president, was "foreign-born." He then attempted to storm out through a side door. Finding it locked, he retreated out the back of the VFW hall instead. (via)

interesting follow-up

remember yesterday, when i showed you that clip of tea party jerks wooting the idea of letting uninsured sick people die? here's a real-life scenario of that happening.
As it turns out, Paul was not speaking purely in hypotheticals. Back in 2008, Kent Snyder — Paul's former campaign chairman — died of complications from pneumonia. Like the man in Blitzer's example, the 49-year-old Snyder (pictured) was relatively young and seemingly healthy* when the illness struck. He was also uninsured. When he died on June 26, 2008, two weeks after Paul withdrew his first bid for the presidency, his hospital costs amounted to $400,000. The bill was handed to Snyder's surviving mother (pictured, left), who was incapable of paying. Friends launched a website to solicit donations. (via
and it seems he wasn't uninsured in some great show of individual liberty, but that a pre-existing condition caused his premiums to be out of financial reach.

not surprising.

did you guys hear what teabagging new york gubernatorial candidate carl paladino said yesterday, while speaking to a group of orthodox jews in williamsburg, of all places?
"There is nothing to be proud of in being a dysfunctional homosexual. That's not how god created us, and that's not the example that we should be showing our children. Children would be much better off and much more successful getting married and raising a family than being gay. And I don't want them brainwashed into thinking homosexuality is an equally valid and successful option - it isn't." (via)
brainwashed! well, he's just looking out for the success of your children. so. oh, and one more thing:
Paladino also told the largely Hasidic Jewish audience that he supports a program to provide tax breaks to people whose children attend private or religious schools. Paladino said he believes there's a way to structure the program so it doesn't violate the separation of church and state and can withstand legal challenges. (via)
what a pander bear!

lou ann, that's racist!

jicydak, murfreesboro's current representative, bart gordon, is retiring after 13 terms, exposing middle tennesseans to a world of hurt. namely, self-proclaimed teabagger, lou ann zelenik.

lou ann made national news this week when she denounced the building of a mosque in murfreesboro, calling it "an islamic training center."

OMG LOU ANN, YOU CAN'T SAY THAT!!!

here's a great quote:

"Until the American Muslim community find it in their hearts to separate themselves from their evil, radical counterparts, to condemn those who want to destroy our civilization and will fight against them, we are not obligated to open our society to any of them," Zelenik says in the statement.

um, yes you are. it's in the constitution. and the declaration of independence.

now she's reporting that she's recieving "threats" to the police. the DNJ, a wonderful publication, went on ahead and jumped to the conclusion that they might be coming from the muslims, a skill they probably picked up at the terrorist training facility mosque.

everyone in district 6, be careful not to accidentally vote for this lady. i BUILT things!
